  1. Re: Midtone Machines - Automatic Film Processing Machine

Yeah as I've said in previous blog posts I didn't intend for it to turn out that way when I started the project, I actually intended it to look a lot more like the filmomat, but as I started working...
  2. Re: Midtone Machines - Automatic Film Processing Machine

PCBs are done and working, I've also put together a dummy body shell out of laser cut MDF for testing purposes, that I think also looks pretty good given that it's just for testing:

    Re: Large Format Landscapes

Mix of Portra 160, Provia and Velvia. Actually digging the Porta a fair bit, especially for taming really harsh light.

Re: Starting my own development ?

I know your pain, practically impossible/significantly expensive to get 4x5 processed in New Zealand, so I use the SP-445 and do my own C-41 and E6 no problems at all. Use a big plastic tub full of...

New post up, nearly done designing the custom PCB's that will clear out the current wiring rats-nest and make manufacturing/production of the machine faster and cheaper.

New blog post, sorry it's been a while:

    http://midtonemachines.com/news/the-programming-continues/

    Re: Large Format Landscapes

Cheers, if I had to guess I'd say it was just the lighting changing, there was small banks of heavy cloud passing the sun every few minutes so it was hard to judge when to take the shot.

    Re: Flowers Anyone?

A bit of a slide vs. colour negative film comparison. Velvia 50 on the left, Ektar 100 on the right (both 4x5).

    Re: Large Format Landscapes

A bit of a slide vs. negative comparison, Ektar 100 on the top and Provia 100 on the bottom. Kinda prefer the Ektar but that might be more because of the change of lighting between shots.

  11. Re: Professional Home film processing 4x5 neg

Applications like these are one of the reasons I'm currently working through designing a new automatic film developing machine, unfortunately it's a ways of being ready for sale yet:...

    New blog post is up:

    http://midtonemachines.com/news/let-the-programming-begin/

I've started wiring and programming the machine now, can make the valves open and close and the motors spin...

One of the servo pinch valves has done 16000 cycles before I stopped the test (no failure). I'll be using the prototype machine for all of my personal photography once it gets going,...

$1500 USD for 10 machines worth of parts (not just the develop tank, but also a few other parts used elsewhere in the machine). Speaking of which, the parts arrived today and they look great!

  17. Re: Midtone Machines - Automatic Film Processing Machine

Yep I have 10 sets of parts on the way with vacuum cast PU, I hope they're bulletproof! Luckily with a set of 10 of everything coming I can sacrifice one or two tanks to destructive testing with some...
  18. Re: Midtone Machines - Automatic Film Processing Machine

The 3D printed one wasn't really the correct material for fully functional testing, it wasn't black and opaque for keeping light out and the heat deflection temperature of the resin isn't really as...
  19. Re: Midtone Machines - Automatic Film Processing Machine

Just dropped the hammer on getting 10 production prototype develop tanks made, and a bunch of other parts required to continue building up the machine, watch this space! I'm really trying to get this...

  22. Re: Midtone Machines - Automatic Film Processing Machine

  29. Re: Midtone Machines - Automatic Film Processing Machine

  30. Re: Midtone Machines - Automatic Film Processing Machine

Cheers. I got some quotes early on and once you include tooling costs it seems that the cross-over point where injection molding starts to make sense is about 350 parts. Honestly I'm not sure I'll be...

  33. Re: Midtone Machines - Automatic Film Processing Machine

  34. Re: Midtone Machines - Automatic Film Processing Machine

  37. Re: Midtone Machines - Automatic Film Processing Machine

  38. Re: Midtone Machines - Automatic Film Processing Machine
