  2. Re: Have you had to pay hefty customs fees when buying from Japan?

I recently bought a piece of gear from an Ebay seller in Japan for ~$850.
A week or so later, I got a surprise invoice from FedEx for ~$45.
First time I'd ever been charged duty for something...

Re: ID a rear lens element?

At first glance, it appears to be the rear element of a 12" f/4.5 Gundlach Radar.
When I get home I can measure mine to compare micrometer readings.

    Re: Selecting Paper

I had some Kodak Brown Toner affect the glossy surface of Kodak Polycontrast III RC prints, leaving an etched swirly-haze look to the surface. It was not there before the toning step.

    Yup.
    As suggested above...practice, practice, practice.

Foma/Arista EDU packages their sheet film in a black plastic bag, inside a two-part cardboard box...not a three-part box.
I've never had an issue, but it is a bit disconcerting.

    A "Brand 17" 4x5 camera with a cracked pot-metal body.

Couldn't get rid of it fast enough.
