  1. Re: CZJ Biotessar 165 2.8 image samples and shutter question

Yes, cell spacing has to be correct. SKGrimes can measure the thing, advise you on which shutter(s) will accept the cells, whether spacer(s) (threaded tube(s)) will be needed and give a price for...
  2. Re: Elmar 135mm: Will it cover 4x5? LSM to Copal adapter?

    Two comments.

If you have the money, honey, SKGrimes and https://www.srb-photographic.co.uk/ will find the time to make an adapter that will let you hang a lens in LTM in front of a Copal #1...

    Re: Fuji 300mm W w/Inside Lettering?

According to coverage claims compiled at http://www.subclub.org/fujinon/index.htm, older Fujinons with text on the trim ring ("inside lettering") very consistently have larger coverage than later...

Re: Graflex and Graphic serial numbers

Greeley? The pictures show an upside down 4x5 Crown Graphic with a top range finder. The serial number is in a block of 3,000 numbers assigned 5/12/55. The next block was assigned 7/21/58.
  5. Re: Longest focal length telephoto lens with bellows draw under 300 mm

Thanks for the very helpful reply.
  6. Re: Longest focal length telephoto lens with bellows draw under 300 mm

    Which camera do you have?

    You'll have to make a bracket that attaches to your camera's tripod socket. I'd use 1" x 1" or 1.5" x 1.5" t-slotted aluminum extrusion as offered by 80/20 on, e.g.,...

  8. Re: Schneider Symmar XL 150mm f5.6 VS Nikor SW 150 f8

Good point, Neal, but are there inexpensive 105 mm center filters?
  9. Re: Schneider Symmar XL 150mm f5.6 VS Nikor SW 150 f8

The Nikkor requires a center filter, as do all lenses that cover 106 degrees. On 8x10, unshifted, with a 150 mm lens the corners will be 2 stops down from the center. They'll be farther down if the...
  10. Re: Switching lenses. Any disadvantage with downsizing the filter thread size?

Indeed you are. When you've calmed down, please tell us the maximum aperture and filter thread size of your 150 mm Fujinon.

If it is an f/6.3 lens, it is the Tessar type. You're seriously...
  11. Re: Looking for 5x7 macro lens recommendation

Oren, thanks for jogging my failing memory.
  12. Re: Looking for 5x7 macro lens recommendation

Hmm. Will you be shooting in landscape or portrait orientation? If landscape, you'll work at a little over 1:1. If portrait, a little under 2:1.

1:1 needs total extension (~ flange to film...

Um, er, ah, you should have asked about Beryls first or read my (and Eric Beltrando's) article on Boyer. See http://www.galerie-photo.com/boyer-lens-optic.html.

  19. Re: Is a macro lens as versatile as a digital macro

Pardon my confusion. At 1:1, a 180 needs 360 mm extension, a 240 needs 480. Why would you be better off with a 240? What have I missed?

Re: Wide angle lenses for 8x10

Before you buy a 180 mm or shorter Dagor to use on 8x10, read this https://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/showthread.php?13109-Lousy-Dagor discussion. All of it.
  21. Re: Is a macro lens as versatile as a digital macro

    Wrong question.

Right question: is the digital camera you have with a 90 mm lens better suited to the macro work you want to do than any 4x5 camera? Only you can answer this.

    I agree with the...

  26. Re: Metering for Aero Ektar/Speed Graphic & ND Filter Help

Incident meters measure light falling on the subject. Reflected light meters measure light reflected by the subject. What a reflected light meter measures depends on light falling on the subject...
  27. Re: Metering for Aero Ektar/Speed Graphic & ND Filter Help

  28. Re: how do I use the same lenses for different cameras?

Pieter, it depend on the lens and on the camera.

Re: Componar 105/f4.5 as taking lense

Funny, that's the definition of not covering.
  30. Re: Zeiss 135mm F/3.5 classic, How good is it ?

Side comment re Xenotars. If the 135s behave like my 80/2.8s (I have one each Xenotar and Planar) a 135 Xenotar will have less coverage than a 135 Planar.

Re: Componar 105/f4.5 as taking lense

Not the best idea. Perhaps for closeup work but not at distance. The Componar (is that what you meant? You misspelled it.) is a triplet, almost certainly won't cover 4x5 at distance.

    You might...
