    Re: Camera for Africa trip

I would take a Mamiya 6 or Mamiya 7 or maybe a Pentax 6x7. There are good lenses available for all of them and they easy to travel with.

    Re: easels

First of all, do not put any faith in what you see on youtube. I have watched hundreds of darkroom youtube episodes and saw very few that had anything worthwhile. It is just hard to believe that...

Re: rabbit hole of F stop printing

Don't believe any of the crap on you see on You Tube! Read what Michael R. says. There are no short cuts or matches or consistency. I have tried several exposure calculators and never found one that...

    Re: ultrafine multigrade filter set

Stop trying to "match" things. There are way too many variables involved to ever get anything to "match". No combination will ever match the results you get from YOUR camera, film, development,...

    Re: ultrafine multigrade filter set

Doremus and Michael R. are correct. Stop worrying about some arbitrary contrast numbers. With variable contrast papers those numbers are irrelevant. You just need to know when to increase contrast or...
  6. Re: What's your favorite internet falsehood on photography?

I have watched dozens of you tube videos on photography and at least 99% of them are just bull ****. The darkroom videos are the worst. I have yet to see one that evens shows how to make a proper...

Re: Dektol staining of resin paper???

It sounds to me that you are under developing and over fixing. Ilford Multigrade developer instructions say 1 to 3 minutes at a dilution of 1:9. Ilford Rapid Fixer instructions say 30 seconds at a...

    Re: Bonding With a Camera

I have a closet full of Nikons. Nikon F, F2, F3, And Nikkormats. My favorite go-to camera is the oldest one. A Nikkormat FT. I don’t know why but it just feels good and fits.

I had one made by Patterson. I used it a few times and found out that it was easier and more accurate to just make test strips.

    Re: The Ethics of Restoration

I agree with what paulbarden said. Cameras are tools and should be used. Restoring a camera just to put it on display just seems wrong in some way. I have restored several motorcycles over the years...

Re: Help with Darkroom sink dimensions

Just make it as big as you can. You can not have too much sink. My rule of thumb is to figure out how big a sink I need and then make it 1.5x bigger than that.
  14. Re: Lubricating DeVere Dichrom MKV head

Do NOT use WD40. It is not a good lubricant. It will end up sticky and worse than you already have.

Could there possibly be some sort of defect in the paper itself? Have you tried paper from a different package? Maybe you just got some defective paper somehow.

Re: Discolored white borders on prints

Correct me if I am wrong but I think mixing 6 oz. fixer with 30 oz. of water is a ratio of 1 to 5 not 1 to 4. A 1 to 4 ratio would be 6 oz. fixer with 24 oz. of water. Maybe your fixer is not strong...
