  1. Re: Software for Converting Scanned Color Negatives

I thought the Black and White slider might be the same as adjusting Levels similar to black and white points on the histogram adjustment in Epsonscan??? How do you do that with Curves?
  2. Re: Software for Converting Scanned Color Negatives

OK So I can scan flat with no adjustments including black and white points (levels). So when I open the flat scan in Lightroom, which sliders do I use to duplicate the adjustments to the histogram...
  3. Re: Scanner Comparison 2019 [Epson Flatbed | Eversmart Flatbed | Drum Scanners]

Are you using the more accurate scanner lens that works with the film holders rather than the less accurate on used on the platen for 8x10's?
  4. Re: Software for Converting Scanned Color Negatives

It's not totally clear. Do you get more workable data setting the histogram before the scan or not?

    Re: Old Things,Farms,Barns,Buildings, Plus

Austin. You really have to stop photographing it and causing all that damage to the shingles.

    Nice shots. ;)

You had to say "Yes." You would have made her day. What's wrong with you? ;)
  7. Re: What’s your most “unpopular” opinion about LF?

Most regular people don't act that way. I've found they're interested in what I'm doing. Often excited and very curious. Of course, they may go home and tell their friends about the old...
  8. Re: What’s your most “unpopular” opinion about LF?

I wonder if using a LF camera makes it seem the photographer is giving special attention to their work? That they're serious about what they're doing. That helps the subjects be more serious as...
  9. Re: What’s your most “unpopular” opinion about LF?

Don't oil paint artists decide where to put the subject effectively deciding which lens angle to use? Sculptors? Why should photographers have any less choice?
  10. Re: What’s your most “unpopular” opinion about LF?

Living in a 55+ retirement community, I know loads of other older people here have probably thrown most of the film stuff out. Some have kept it especially the more expensive stuff like Leica's....
  11. Re: Software for Converting Scanned Color Negatives

Rainer, MAybe you can clarify something that I haven't been able too. Some people have said you ought to set the white and black points before the scan by setting them on the scanner's prescan...
  12. Re: Software for Converting Scanned Color Negatives

Thanks, a little complicated. I found this explanation of why scanners are better wth orange masks than shooting them with a digital camera. Can anyone explain how a scanner does the following...
  13. Re: Software for Converting Scanned Color Negatives

Can anyone explain in simple terms in 25 words or less the orange mask's purpose and why it creates problems when scanning?
  14. Re: Software for Converting Scanned Color Negatives

    What about using Levels?
  15. Re: Scanner Comparison 2019 [Epson Flatbed | Eversmart Flatbed | Drum Scanners]

Maybe he meant something else. After all, the V850 factory-supplied film holders have height adjustments built-in.
  16. Re: What’s your most “unpopular” opinion about LF?

I think Sillverfast and Vuescan are overrated and not worth the money. Stick with free Epsonscan.
  17. Re: Scanner Comparison 2019 [Epson Flatbed | Eversmart Flatbed | Drum Scanners]

Steve, What do you mean reset focus in the V850?

    Re: Large Format Landscapes

NIce shot. About the banding. It could be you scan at too few dpi. What did you use? Also, when converting to a jpeg, setting the compression level too low can create banding.
  19. Re: Software for Converting Scanned Color Negatives

The final colors seem a little undersaturated but that should be an easy adjustment.

    Re: E100 Color Problems

Your Ektachrome version definitely looks off. I received the boxes of Ektachrome E100 and Provia 100F 4x5 film in Nov 2020 from B&H. My film was developed in an outside lab in June 2021.

    Re: E100 Color Problems

Here's a comparison of 4x5 Ektachrome and Provia. Both shot in overcast skies. Ektachrome reds seem redder and Provia seems more orange. Greens are different as well. How would you describe the...

Yes I:m aware of the sky issue. But a polarizer also removes reflections and darkens green grass and leaves.

    Re: Which diameter filter

Thanks for the info. The attached pictures shows the arrangement for my Nikkor 90mm f/4.5 used for 4x5 camera. So it appears I need a 150mm adj ND adapter and filter. I would use contrast filters...

I could see myself messing up the sets and having the wrong size filters for the lens I brought. I leave the step-up filter on each lens ready for the same sized filter. Why complicate things?
