  1. Re: Darkroom available in Madison, Wisconsin USA

Note, we replaced the pictured Leitz enlarger with a third LPL 4500 series. One of the LPL 4500's will have the LPL mixing box dedicated for 35 mm negatives, thus ensuring a brighter projected image.

    Re: DSLR Scanner: Lens Tests

While looking for macrophotography lenses I came across these nicely done tests of optics on the Close-Up Photography website. Some of these optics may also be suitable for a DSLR/mirrorless film...

Re: Tripod questions, chamonix 045N-2, hiking

I can not provide advice on tripod legs since I will also be looking for lighter legs. However I can suggest two alternatives for lighter weight heads plus one unconventional head, and a light way of...
  6. LPL-4500 VCCE head: which number is Kodak vs Ilford variable contrast setting?

Our organization has two Saunders/Omega/LPL 4500 series enlargers but we do not have the manual for the VCCE (Variable Contrast Constant Exposure) head. The head has two settings on a slide switch...

  8. Re: Seeking out Midwest darkrooms to photograph

PhotoMidwest here in Madison WI finally got our darkroom usable just this last weekend. Still lots more to do to get it to where we want it to be. The Beseler enlarger in the photo was sold to a...
  9. Re: Anyone use the B&W King 5x7 (or 4x5) developing reel & tank (Nikor-like)?

My suggestion (which I have not yet tried) is make a larger "knob" out of PVC plumbing pipe. The PVC plastic is relatively easy to saw and you can use PVC cement to glue various pieces together. Use...
  10. Anyone use the B&W King 5x7 (or 4x5) developing reel & tank (Nikor-like)?

Has anyone tried the B&W King developing reel & tank system? It appears similar in design to the Nikkor 4x5 reel & tank (which some like, others do not). Unlike the Nikkor, one B&W King model will...

Re: Best tripod head for 4x5 camera?

While a lot more expensive than a longer screw from the hardware store, Manfrotto head users who would prefer to use an Arca-Swiss type quick release may want to look at the variety of Manfrotto...
  12. Re: View camera alignment for "full frontal architecture"

    Two more suggestions:

    1. Use a surveyor's sighting-type compass (I use the Suunto KB-14 sighting compass, accuracy 1/3 degree) or pocket transit to measure the compass bearing across the front of...
  13. Lens case: Cabela's Hardside Reel Case on sale through May for $29.99, holds up to 8

Thanks to these forums, I learned that fishing reel cases can make good large format lens cases. When Cabela's spring catalog listed their Cabela's Hardside Reel Case on sale for $29.99 (regularly...

  15. Re: Your #1 tip that even grey-templed landscapers might adopt

I will second the Kako ICEtrekkers Diamond Grip Traction System. The metal at the toe prevents it from sliding back and loosening (unlike the various YakTrax models I've used). Also it has grippers...
