Re: Is Arista EDU Ultra 400 ISO 8x10 any good?

Fomapan 400 is great film. Most of the naysayers haven't used it. If you'll expose it at EI 200 your negatives will be as good as with any film.

The only films I've had major problems with are...

Re: Formula for Citric Acid Stop Bath?

It's really not a good idea to get it in the eyes. That goes for either acid. Flush the eye with water for many minutes.

    Wow. Beautiful print!
  4. Re: printing cyanotypes on hahnemuhle platinum rag (challenges)

Using Tween *and* making sure HPR is humid enough is highly recommended.

Humidifying with steam 40s - 2min works. But with large papers brushing on distilled water can be easier. Wet the brush and...

Re: Best choice portrait BW film

Don't know about wild cards. But Fomapan 400 is brilliant if you are making portraits in cool north light. Wonderful skin tones. The speed is OK, don't expect more than EI 200.

    Re: Portraits from 2022

I like your portrait. I wonder if more exposure would give better detail in the shadows, or if it would just ruin the highlights on green X-ray film.
  8. Re: is there work arounds for missing retaining rings?

If the lens isn't super heavy, cut a piece of thick matt board and make a hole slightly smaller than the lens threads. Paint it black and screw it on like a retaining ring.
  9. Re: Arista EDU and Foma 400 - Are you using them in spite of .... ??

I know it's been a long time since you used this film, but what were your problems with extended development of Fomapan 200?

    Re: ScanMate Plus debugging

I've only used the 5000 on Windows.
    From (hazy) memory:
-The serial connection activates when you power up the machine and says "Hello World.." etc. If you don't listen at power up you can't see...

Re: 300mm Rodagon with Slight Edge Fungus

Using the same barrel and rings when you assemble it again?

I've had success with pipe clamps and a hammer with stubborn lenses. Just give it 1000 light taps instead of one hard blow, and make...
  12. Re: 4x5 Portrait lens recommendation with "classic" look and feel

Gebr. Schreck Feinmechanik GmbH & Co will make you a Sinar style cable release if you email them. They have standard lengths up to 100cm and can probably make any length you need.

    Re: High Lights scanning problem

I've found that the most important setting in scanning, is giving the correct amount of exposure. This is especially true working with consumer grade scanners.

These scanners don't have a linear...

    Re: the "best" 5x7 Camera

Thanks Greg and Vaughn for your comments! It sounds workable enough. And I agree with you Vaughn, the strengths/quirks of the camera really affect how you "see" and expose.

    Re: the "best" 5x7 Camera

The Chamonix 57 N3 seems like a fine field camera, well designed and light. But it's horizontal only. I wonder if anyone here has worked with it, or a similar camera. Would tilting the whole camera...
