I've been looking at this recently as well - specifically this developer (I'm in the UK):...
I have used Kodak Flexicolor with the Jobo drums and would recommend this option; just don't over use the developer - 4 sheets of 8x10 in 1000ml working solution of developer should be safe one-shot.
Mike, are you using a Jobo or one of these Stearman tanks?
Tom
I went with the WordPress option. A good balance between features and time investment for my purposes. www.tomkershaw.com
Jim,
Do you take a view on Intel Core processors compared to AMD? I'm on the Mac at the moment but may think about moving over to a alternative at some point, especially if Linux is a serious...
I wonder if this may have been an issue with the Refrema machine for the lab I was familiar with, relying on in-person trade in Norwich, not exactly a Birmingham, Manchester or Glasgow for that...
In the past I ran a Thermaphot roller transport machine for RA-4 prints, I would be nervous of using rollers for film. As I'm only processing for myself at the moment the Jobo works very well - and I...
Has anyone here used one of these? https://www.dlgelectronics.com/photometer2productpage.html - I've always worked with a Pentax Digital Spotmeter and have just spent some time trying understand how...
Sandy,
Is the Sony A7R IV the first camera you've tried camera based digitising with? I've made some attempts with a Fuji X-T2 and have found the process works better than I had expected,...
Peter,
Do you have any plans written up for how you constructed the light source?
Tom
I was a keen Adobe user for a long time although when I realised I was only using a small percentage of the features I transferred over to PhotoLine - this was before Affinity Photo had developed...
Someone on this forum is using the Panasonic S1R which I believe is relatively less expensive compared to the Sony A7R IV camera.
Sandy, thanks as well from me as that is very helpful information, especially as few have your depth of experience and have tested Epson -> camera "scanning" -> drum scanner for comparison.
Tom
I'm not sure how the approach of using something like the Kaiser Panolight compares as a light source - these seem to have adjustable intensity....
Peter, those are some good points. He doesn't seem to back up the assertions made - although from a quick read through I thought he was discussing exposure more than light source.
There are some comments in the article below that discuss possible problems with correct exposure with a camera system, eg. balance of red, green, blue etc. I'm not familiar with the author however...
Peter, I've just had a look at those videos - great work - and your set-up seems more akin to "scanning" than some of the methods I've seen advocated, using a simple copy stand, light source, and...
I have the Coolscan 9000 which is a similar model. Do you remember what broke with your machine?
Tom
Well this is odd, I've just done a darkroom session and had no issues with the sticking valves; I'll monitor the situation.
My acetic acid is 60%. I'll try this afternoon / evening and leave to soak overnight.
When I dissembled the unit there was very little actually visible that would indicate problems. I'll try soaking with a stronger acetic acid solution next, I only used 6% on the previous occasion.
The Intellifaucet valves have started sticking again today, so perhaps I need to soak them in acetic acid once a month or so as maintenance.
Everything still seems to be working fine with the Intellifaucet.
I was printing in the darkroom this afternoon and the Intellifaucet worked fine, I'm planning to do some more tomorrow, but signs are positive so far.
Works for me just now in Safari.
The whole process did take up a good chunk of time, but I've run the machine again just now after a couple of hours and still working. I'm planning some printing in the next few days so will see how...
I have now reassembled the D250 and all seems to be working fine.
How does one define a 'professional style' camera, 500mm lens on a DSLR?
Thanks. I now have the unit partially disassembled (electronics board safely to one side) and have the whole "wet" pipe work of the unit now soaking in 6% acetic acid.
Tom
I have an Intellifaucet D250 that has suffered from sticking valves (I'm in a hard water area - but all my darkroom water goes through a filter) recently - last weekend I soaked the hot and cold...
I can't be of much help but I'm using ColorPerfect within PhotoLine on an old Mac Book Pro running High Sierra and I hope I can keep this going as long as possible.
I have now somewhat surprisingly successfully run a batch of C-41 film this evening. The solution was to open up the Jobo and clean / wipe down everything inside the water bath, the thermostat, and...
Hello,
Firstly I usually post over at another forum but realise there seem to be several Jobo users here so worth a try...
My machine which worked fine to process C-41 last Sunday, will today...
Fantastic images and story. I'm planning (and have started to) do more hiking with large format but not any mountain climbing...
Tom
The ILFORD Warmtone developer gives warmer results than Dektol / D-72 in my experience.
I leave my unit out on a bench, and have the cold supply connected up, but no plumbing otherwise. My previous ATL-2300 was fully plumbed in with a tempered supply for washing colour film.
Your 'A Walk In The Park' is excellent, strong composition, and great capturing of the light and shadow of the trees.
Do you remember the exposure index and development time? - I've sometimes...
Have just found this thread in 2019 as my Epson V700 started showing "blotches" in scans. Will now hopefully be able to clean the glass with confidence.
Tom
I'd exercise caution in relation to relying on a Power Mac G5 longterm. I have one here that now serves as a plant stand due to motherboard problems.
Tom
I've just started doing some colour printing again with my stocks of Kodak Supra Endura. The paper isn't that fresh these days and my experience is that currently available Fuji Crystal Archive gives...
