    Re: 8x10 carry options

I had a lightware case once. It was extremely high quality.

    Re: 8x10 carry options

I bungee whatever case to an old-style wheeled golf dolly. Light, compact, breaks down, cheap, good wheels for non-technical or super steep terrain....
  9. Re: Need More LIGHT: Should I start PUSHING?

William Mortensen wasn't too shabby at portraits. He developed to completion, the ultimate push. Do his portraits look overly contrasty? They don't to me. He didn't over-expose, and he...

  11. Re: Need More LIGHT: Should I start PUSHING?

Sure, you can try pushing. Deardorffuser, a member here, regularly pushes Foma 200 to EI 800 with great results.
  12. Re: landscape infintity focus: what aperture do you prefer or use?

I used to use mostly f/22-f/32, but these days I tend to use a larger aperture, mainly to limit depth of field.

Thanks, Philip. Yep, Cotton is a Pyrenean Mountain Dog. I went around the house to try to get a photograph of a neat bird. Alas, it was gone, but when I turned around, Cotton was watching me. I...

Re: Tired of my ground glass

Bill works best via telephone. I'd give him a call. Set aside enough time, as the call is likely to last awhile.

Re: Rebuilding a Deardorff 11x14 Studio Stand

I wish I could go get it....but it's just too far at the moment. If anyone from the Midwest is going to NC and is willing to get it a bit closer, I'd be very grateful. Currently, it's 802 miles...

Re: Portrait Lens 8x10, soft focus

I can see an 18" Verito from where I'm sitting, and I used a 2D for years. Do not use one on a 2D without providing auxiliary support. The front standard of a 2D is not up to the task. That said,...

  38. Re: Suggest a 12" (300mm) lens for portrait work on 8x10?

I like Raptars, too. I have a 240. The problem, and the problem with Ilex lenses, are the shutters. I'm just not a fan. I prefer how modern Copal, Compur and Prontor shutters work. For instance,...
  39. Re: Suggest a 12" (300mm) lens for portrait work on 8x10?

    I have a 300 Fuji L. I like it, but it's not like I've done a bunch of comparisons.

Looking at your comments, I'd also check out an Ilex Paragon. I haven't had a 300, but I've had a couple...
