Re: Show off your Large Format camera!

Boy, not me. I had an 8x10 and couldn't resist getting an 8x20 that was in very nice condition. That "addiction" lasted for one photograph.
  2. Poll: Re: What's your #1 anxiety about LF (in your personal life)?

My #1 LF anxiety, both when this thread began, and now . . .

Ilford going out of business.

Re: Good light lens for 8x10

The image circle of a 305mm G-Claron is 381mm. High as that is for a small lens, it's conservative. G-Clarons are known for their substantial coverage when stopped down.

  7. Re: The Variable Contrast Printing Manual by Anchell, Steve

    Doremus,

Thanks so much for this post. Really interesting!

It's reassuring that you use about the about the same contrast settings when printing. I've been curious about this, because the...
  8. Re: The Variable Contrast Printing Manual by Anchell, Steve

    Why the need to calibrate?

I use a Beseler 45s head. I consider no filtration to be "grade 2," or "normal." To increase contrast, I add magenta without yellow, and to decrease contrast, I add...

    Re: Photographs of Historic Buildings

The castle itself is an impressive piece of architecture. But, the man in the foreground really helps make this photograph. Really a nice image.
  10. Poll: Re: Some Darkroom questions, mostly on enlargers

Any enlarger with a long, single column like the Omegas will need to be tethered at the top. Even though my D2V had a relatively short column, I tethered the top. Ditto with the Zone VI enlarger...
  11. Poll: Re: Some Darkroom questions, mostly on enlargers

I've had several Omega enlargers . . . a D2v, I had a couple of D5 XL's, one with a color head and the other with the Universal head, and a D6. The only one that I really used was the D2v with a...

Re: Photo Cart Based on an Old Golf Cart

I was out photographing at the beach today with my 4x5 kit. My wife and I were taking a break at a picnic table.

A woman stopped by and said that was the best use of a golf cart that she had ever...

    Re: Beseler 45S Head issues

Yeah, I think that definitely, just the direct connection would work. (Without the feedback loop.) I would splice in the rectifier, so that you can use the recommended quartz halogen bulbs. It's...

Re: Photo Cart Based on an Old Golf Cart

I thought that I would update this thread with the following.

These are my three outfits that I use most of the time. From left to right: 8x10, 4x5, and my digital kit for color. It took...
  17. Re: Can anyone recommend a sturdy tall carbon fiber tripod and ball head/pan-tilt hea

For Feisol, the difference between the 3441T and a 3372, is that the latter has the beefy legs. (37mm, versus 28mm.) That's something that I value. But, I also photograph with 8x10 on my tripod.

    Re: Beseler 45S Head issues

That's what I did. As designed, the circuit board regulates the light output of the quartz halogen bulb. For mine, it runs only the fan. (Over-design.:))

But to wire it directly to AC requires a...

Re: Are There New Shutters for Old Lenses

I'm wondering about the origin of the "30% accuracy" that's mentioned above? Was this the "accuracy" claimed by manufacturers (i.e. Copal) for new shutters, or is it the accuracy typically claimed...
  20. Re: Metal vs Wood cameras - advantages/disadvantages

Of course, this is the case. I have a 4x5 conversion for my 6x9 Arca that really makes for a nice camera, and if traveling, I can take both.

I also enjoy using the Sinar F. At home, I find it...
  21. Re: Metal vs Wood cameras - advantages/disadvantages

    I've done the wood thing . . .

For example, I had a 4x5/5x7 Deardorff for 4x5 film. It was a fun camera to use, but it just didn't have the wide-angle capability that I wanted. Even for...

    I recommend a Feisol tripod, like a CT-3372. Or even better, a CT-3372LV with longer legs . . .

It's different in that it's LF on an LF site.

I'm OK with Safe Haven for MF. But, I disagree with any specificity beyond that. Or, it can be posted in The Lounge.

    Re: 210mm F5.6 Lens For 8x10

I've owned the 210mm Computar f9 lens, and had a chance to do some testing with it. Note that one really has to stop the lens down to get anything close to 440mm.

I finally decided that, if ever...
  33. Re: It happened to me! What Disasters or Near-misses have you had while Shooting?

Here's a recent "disaster" for me. (It's a bit long winded.)

  35. Re: Laptop for digital photo editing, scanning, etc.

Ditto, but to a little smaller border. (9mm vs. 1/2")

  37. Re: Dry Mountings vs Hinging and other aspects of presentation

Museum board has gotten so expensive, I drymount to 2 ply, Riser White and overmat w/ 4 ply when framing a print.

How does Perma Wash compare to Kodak HCA? Is it basically the same stuff?
