    Re: 8x10 macro lens

The 180mm Schneider Makro Symmar HM may not be the least expensive, but creates some beautiful images.

    Re: Schneider Apo-Symmar L?

I had a 210mm Symmar S that would not cover 8x10. I now use a 210mm Apo Symmar L that does cover 8x10 at infinity with no movements.

Re: Opinions on upgrading from 4x5 to 8x10

I have a love hate relationship with 8x10. I love using the camera, composing the image, thinking about how to make the image better, the technical challenges, dropping the negatives on a light...

Re: Intro to Lee (or others) cut filtration?

This is not the most efficient route to using threaded filters. Buy the largest filters you may need, then use step up rings to mate the smaller lenses. For example, you have three lenses with 77,...

    Re: 6x17 Images

Sounds like there may be a small alignment issue. Also, if you use a 210mm Apo Symmar L you will get better coverage. I use it on an 8x10 and only get minor corner vignette focused at infinity and...

    Trying to resurrect this thread.

The first is a Piper Cub (PA18) used by the Alaska State Troopers. Big tundra tires and all. Shot at Lake Hood Strip.

I just noticed your posting. I have done this trip about a half dozen times. I am going to assume that you are interested in the scenery as opposed to say shopping. I am also going to make an...

Re: 6x12 Backs - Horseman or Sinar Zoom or ?

I have used the Linhof 6x12 back for over a decade now. I have never had an issue with it beyond weight, it's heavy like a brick. That being said, it keeps the film flat and is a joy to use knowing...

10x8 Newbie - LOTS of info please!

I don’t know much about the other lenses you have listed, however, the 300mm 5.6 Symmar S is a nice lens. On an 8x10 I have not run out of room for movements due to the lens; both color and B&W are...

    Calumet C-1

They are heavy. Green does not necessarily mean that it's the magnesium one... check the weight with a scale. On a positive note, it is very stable (even in wind).

Thought I'd add one more thing. Duggal called me yesterday, they wanted to charge me an additional $7. Apparently the shipping price they quoted me was incorrect. I said that instead of shipping...

8x10 contact on metallic paper. Quoted $8 each when I called the customer service folks. When my negative arrived, and they called me back, $48 for the first, $25 for each additional.

    An 8x10 Headache.

Here is the situation. I have been shooting 4x5 for say a decade now. Last summer I wanted to try out an 8x10. I got an 18lb Calumet C1. I shot 30 images with it. I was unimpressed with the...

    ACTUAL Camera Weights

Calumet C-1, 18lbs. Then add the 23lb tripod and head that are stout enough to hold the green monster, the 4lb lens, a few film holders, etc... and you get a good work out.

    Tall tripods

I have an old Gitzo 5 series, got it off Ebay for $300. It must weigh twice what my 8x10 (18lbs) does, and goes taller than most step ladders (apx. 12-15 feet). I really like it not because of the...

Ha ha haaa - Ilford heist

I spoke with B&H last week. They said that they would be receiving a shipment of Ilford film in two weeks. I guess wait and see if they really do get it in.
