    Re: Problems with sharpness

Another possibility. Scanner. If you want to evaluate a negative, look at it with the help of a loupe.

Re: CHAS A. GUMP brass Lens?

Sounds like a lens sold by a retailer who bought in lenses engraved with his firm's name.

    Re: Wide Lenses for 4x5 & 8x10: 90mm to 165mm

Falloff is a property of the lens, not of the film. However, negative films have broader exposure latitude than reversal films so with them falloff can somewhat be dealt with when printing. On the...

  5. Re: Problem: Long Rail, Long Bellows... Is There a Solution to Use One Tripod

Well, the 8x10 in y'r photo is a Cambo and the tripod mounting block is Cambo's C378 monorail connector/double tripod mount. I'm not sure -- my ignorance is showing -- that there's anything like the...

Re: Fuji 90mm f8 SW or Nikon 90mm f8 SW

Alan, PMFJI. Alan, there's always falloff. This is a property of the lens, depends on focal length and angle off axis. Film used has nothing to do with it, BUT negative film usually has more...

    Re: Recognizing dagor type G-Clarons

Look at a single cell. Either will do because they're identical. Unscrew a cell from the barrel and use a point source of light.

The cells are direct fits in a #1 shutter.

Re: Fuji 90mm f8 SW or Nikon 90mm f8 SW

Hmm. Did you shoot 6x7 without movements? I ask because 90 mm is the normal focal length for 6x7 so without movements a 90 that covers the format should have only minimal falloff.

Re: Fuji 90mm f8 SW or Nikon 90mm f8 SW

  13. Re: Question Regarding 35mm/MF lenses for Macro on 4x5

Sheesh! By a copy of Lefkowitz instead of guessing.

46.5 mm is the Nikon F mount flange-to-film distance, therefore is the minimum working distance for closeup photography. The magic number to...
  14. Re: Focus Stacking with 8x10 Large Format Film...Ben Horne

Sandy, the story he told about why he shifted the plane of best focus by moving the rear standard is nonsense. That said, he adjusted his images' sizes digitally to make stacking work. So, overall,...
  15. Re: Question Regarding 35mm/MF lenses for Macro on 4x5

You may think that you've asked a simple question for which a simple answer will suffice. In fact you've asked an apparently simple question that wants a book length answer.

    The bulletin board --...
  16. Re: Question Regarding 35mm/MF lenses for Macro on 4x5

Ah. Not easy, and very small depth of field. Yr Cambo SC should have enough extension to get much more magnification than you want with the lenses you named.

But and however it appears that...
  17. Re: Question Regarding 35mm/MF lenses for Macro on 4x5

Hmm. Image circle grows with magnification. Lenses for 35mm still have to cover 43 mm.

Here's Emmanuel Bigler's suggestion, taken from...
  18. Re: Focus Stacking with 8x10 Large Format Film...Ben Horne

Sorry, Kumar, focusing by moving the rear standard changes extension. Changing extension changes magnification. If you don't believe me and don't want to read a book on closeup work, try the...
  19. Re: Focus Stacking with 8x10 Large Format Film...Ben Horne

I wonder why he changed magnification to move the plane of best focus instead of moving the camera/lens assembly.
  20. Re: I would like to learn how to do macrophotography with my 8X10.

This depends on the magnification wanted. Bob Salomon will shortly be along to tell you about 180 and 210 mm Apo-Macro-Sironar lenses. There's also the 210/5.6 AM ED Nikkor and the 180/5.6 Makro...

  23. Re: How do I recognize lenses that will cover an 8X10 plate with no vignetting

120/8 Nikon will do it with mm to spare, i.e., no movements.

So will the 120/14 Berthiot Perigraphe VIa. Look for them on leboncoin.fr and ebay.fr. These lenses are in barrel, can be stuffed...

    Re: Lousy Dagor

Oh, come on, John, the original complaint was about a 180 mm (7") that wouldn't cover 8x10. That your longer Dagors cover 8x10 is irrelevant. Artars are even less relevant.

  29. Re: Can you add Cambo SC rails together, to get more extension?

I just measured. Mitutoyo dial caliper calibrated in inches. 1x1, possibly a hair smaller. Did the same with no-name dial caliper in mm. 25.35 or so x 25.40 or so.

You can see such a rail in...
  30. Re: Can you add Cambo SC rails together, to get more extension?

wpv, I really hesitate to ask because I don't want to insult you, but I see that you got your standard on a piece of 80/20 1010 extrusion. So your problem must be that turning the rail rider's...

  32. Re: Can you add Cambo SC rails together, to get more extension?

Interesting. I just took out a Cambo SC-1 standard, mounted it on a 4' section of 1" x 1" 80/20 t-slotted extrusion that looks just like yours. The standard moves as it should when I turn its...

  35. Re: Can you add Cambo SC rails together, to get more extension?

That's nice. Does it work for you? Mine do, and that's why I recommended 80/20 1010 stock.

    I'll say it again. 80/20 brand size 1010. https://www.amazon.com/80-20-Inc-T-Slotted-Extrusion/dp/B001F0F10I/ref=dp_fod_1?pd_rd_i=B001F0F10I&psc=1

  38. Re: Can you add Cambo SC rails together, to get more extension?

I have no idea whether it will do what you want, but then, I don't quite understand what you want to accomplish. If you want to use a Cambo SC to add extension to a digicam, why not hang the digicam...
  39. Re: Can you add Cambo SC rails together, to get more extension?

Oslolens' suggestion is the usual and Cambo makes brackets (C-278 monorail connector) to do just that.

    But there's a potentially less expensive way to get a 60 cm rail. 1" x 1" 80/20 brand...
