Elsa Dorfman: Me and My Camera

Working with a 200-pound, 20 x 24 Polaroid camera, one of only a few in existence, Dorfman has photographed friends, artists, and celebrities. At the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston through June 21....

I did end up making an LVT with 4 variations of contrast, still not quite there. However, I finally printed another of the first LVT batch and actually like the print better than the original digital...

    Re: Incident Metering Question

I personally would just use your spot meter as you do for 4x5. Why complicate things? I use an incident meter when I can walk right up to the subject and measure the light hitting it--and usually for...

Re: Peak Design Travel Tripod for LF?

The tripod review/testing site "The Center Column" gives high marks to Leofoto tripods, apparently Chinese clones of RRS. https://thecentercolumn.com/tripod-reviews/leofoto/leofoto-ls-284c-review/

  6. Re: My Omega Condensers have scratches - any negatives (hah) with using a diffuser?

Would that really affect the performance of the condenser that much? The condensers are quite large and the curve is pretty steep. And all that is far behind the negative, especially the top...
  7. Re: My Omega Condensers have scratches - any negatives (hah) with using a diffuser?

How deep are the scratches? Could they be polished out with rubbing compound? I doubt you would distort the shape enough to make any difference.

    Re: 4x5 enlarger

Some swear by the D2--I have a D5 that works great for me, and parts (carriers, lens boards) are still pretty easily available. But I would advise you to shop locally, either through Craigslist or...
  10. Re: Scanner, enlarger, or contact printer? Which one and why???

I return to the OP's original intent--to have wet prints made, be it by an outside lab or himself. He wants to learn how to use a LF camera, I would suggest learning darkroom skills as well. Maybe a...
  11. Re: Scanner, enlarger, or contact printer? Which one and why???

The downside of using a digital contact "proof" to progress to an enlarged silver print is that unless your negatives are technically great, work has to be done during the making of the final print....

Re: Linhof Master Technika Lens Options?

The reason I posted the Linhof weight (m/o lens, backs, etc.) is my backpack full of photo gear for walking (I hesitate to call it hiking--I rarely go for more than 5 miles) weighs in at 20 lbs. At...
  13. Re: This builder of retro film cameras says digital cameras are too easy, and no fun

  24. Re: Travelers: New X-ray machines WILL ruin your film

TSA states you can bring film in carry-on or checked baggage. They don't say the film won't be affected. They recommend asking for hand inspection.

  26. Re: Travelers: New X-ray machines WILL ruin your film

Sorry, the lamp is an unsightly distraction in an otherwise appealing photo. It adds nothing, means nothing, just detracts from a pretty model and good lighting.
