Thank you for that.
Thanks Michael.
Video?!? Is it available online/dvd? I am very interested.
Congratulations - beautiful work.
To mask or not to mask - that has been on my mind as well.
I have Lynn Radeka’s Masking Kit and instructions; what is holding me back is the fear of the learning curve - learning these techniques...
Same here - I just order from Freestyle - never a problem. I live in NYC and could pick up the chemistry - and then what? Parking in the area is impossible - a 1 hr parking fee is upwards of $20.00...
Very instructive discussion.
The only kit I have ready to go (backpacking) is a TOHO (4x5) with a Rodenstock 135mm and a 240mm Fujinon-A.
Most of my photography work is done in Italy however, and...
Adding to ic-racer's point:
I live in a building complex with a pretty nice garden area and big beautiful trees. A few years ago I started photographing the close-up details of the trees with...
He knows what he's talking about - very informative. I only wish he would break the videos into chapters for future reference.
That is exceptional!
I really like my Toho; went hiking with it just this week.
Beautifully balanced composition.
Looks like you are ready to roll - congrats!
Which extractor fan is that? it looks very similar to the one I installed in my darkroom (mine is made by Dayton); I think mine might be a bit smaller...
It's looking really good - what lens are you planning to use?
Very nice; and I know exactly (!) where that is.
Thanks for the tip; it so happens that I have the bags you're talking about.
With XTOL I got a little over box speed and a little under with D-23. My tests were confirmed by Richard Ritter (I was new to using a densitometer and didn't trust my results). The film is Tri-X 320...
I absolutely get what you're saying. Their customer service (caring) has gone by the wayside for a long time now. I hope they will keep making Tri-X and T-Max with the same quality control to date....
Whenever I hear of quality-control problems in Kodak products, my heart sinks.
This particular snafu is directly related to their changing supplier/manufacturer for their chemistry line. One would...
'Melancholy' describes the work very well.
Some printers will tone in Selenium long enough to obtain D-max, and after a complete wash, will bathe the print in Sistan.
Lovely portrait.
Thanks Steve - I hope the paper becomes available in the US again. I get the sense that it is a distribution problem and that, hopefully, it will be resolved.
It's not a huge increase but, as you point out, it is encouraging. I wonder what it looks like at Adox and Foma.
You hit the proverbial nail on the head!
I’ve read that, although film sales are up, paper sales are either flat or declining a bit.
We have lost so many great papers over the past 20 years or so.
I have had good experience buying Foma and other papers from Freestyle. Oriental Paper is readily available in Japan and I have seen no notice of its discontinuation. Could be a distribution problem...
No one has had in stock for months. Calls and emails to the distributor have gone unanswered and I have no idea if this is a distribution problem o if they simply stpped making it.
Is your partner in consultation with my partner? I think they are. My new film freezer will 'have to be shared" with frozen food and stored in 'my' darkroom.
I need to keep the footprint small, so...
I hang mine on the wall - it is supported all around; I haven't noticed any warping issues but honestly, I use it so little of late.
I still have the Dexter - it's fine with some patience and a...
A more expensive option is to have the Mixing Box converted to an LED light source.
I know someone whose L1200 head was badly damaged when he shipped it to his new home. The conversion was made by...
A reasonable way to look at it. I used Diafine a lot when I photographed musicians in dimly lit clubs; I still have 4-5 1/gal. packages; Acufine is quite useful also and still use it regularly.
Looks like they are pricing it right out of existence. Too bad -
Funny and absolutely true
I think this is true also. Going to the Post Office is PITA right now, (especially in a hard-hit area like where I live).
I had been photographing and preparing a bunch of items I was going to...
Drew - thank you for the detailed status of the process.
Alan - I didn’t know very much about Jim Bones other than him being Eliot Porter’s printer.
JP - thank you for sharing the video.
Can the chemistry still be reliably sourced for Dye Transfer? I know Kodak stopped production years ago. It’s a difficult process to begin with and I wonder how challenging it is for any practitioner...
Long ago I saw some of Eliot Porter’s prints at an exhibition; I had never seen such beautiful color prints before, or since.
The process is laborious to be sure, but probably unequalled even now.
...
Well organized; I always appreciate that.
I have a sizable stash if the Adox but once you start printing a project, it goes very fast. I hope it comes back soon; it’s become my favorite WT paper.
