Re: LED enlarger head creation -- just a thought

I have never seen an Omega, but looking at my Beseler it seems possible on this model. I would even consider it possible on mine to replace the bayonet socket inside the top cap with an LED array....

Re: Adaptor for Kodak AG 9x12cm to 4x5?

Yeah, I mean producing a 9x12 image on 4x5, since the film gate on the normal holder is narrower than a 4x5 sheet, but somewhat longer (to accommodate the springloaded clips that hold either a plate...

Re: Adaptor for Kodak AG 9x12cm to 4x5?

Yeah, I was being dumb for a second. 120 has a typical frame height of 2 1/4, not 3 1/4".

    Can you cut 120 into 3 1/4 X 4 1 / 4? If so that might be of use...

Re: Adaptor for Kodak AG 9x12cm to 4x5?

Yes, see, that's exactly what I want. It would be such a compact and efficient little 4x5 handheld, but with the awkward, hard-to-slide holders and GG , it'd be literally impossible to use handheld...

Adaptor for Kodak AG 9x12cm to 4x5?

So I have a Recomar 33 in great shape. It has perfect bellows and a fully working Compur shutter with Xenar 135mm. It's great but nearly unusable to me since I have to cut 4x5 film down for it in the...

Re: Is it worth it to buy this Beseler enlarger?

    Post script to this thread:

I went back and it was a 23C II (not XL), which is not a true large format enlarger, so I won't discuss it at any length here. I did manage to secure a discount,...

Re: Exact Full Plate Image Dimensions?

I'd assume with the age of the format that it would vary from camera to camera. Hell, the precise dimensions of the film gate might actually vary within the same model of camera. I'm assuming you...

Re: Is it worth it to buy this Beseler enlarger?

It's a Soviet Industar 135mm... I forget the exact name of the lens but it was the most common enlarger lens in Russia and Ukraine back in the day... or so I've been told. It's in mint condition and...
  11. Re: Does anyone know a cheap send-away place that can do a very basic CLA on a Wollen

I mean, that's really my business.

Anyways, the Xenar/Compur I have is unsychronized, so I would need to to do solenoid to synch an electronic flash too.

Also, as few flash pictures as I take...

Re: Is it worth it to buy this Beseler enlarger?

No lens, but somebody threw in an enlarger lens (LTM) with a camera I bought. The enlarger appears to take an LTM lens.
  14. Re: Does anyone know a cheap send-away place that can do a very basic CLA on a Wollen

Ah, well, I have poor eyes for my age (astigmatism with double vision) and I am terminally clumsy. You know how on 35mm you're not supposed to shoot handheld below, say, 1/60th for a 50mm lens,...
  15. Re: Does anyone know a cheap send-away place that can do a very basic CLA on a Wollen

The only one in my city is about 85 and is essentially retired. She's nice but she's probably forgotten how to do it. Sending it away looks like my only option.
  16. Re: Does anyone know a cheap send-away place that can do a very basic CLA on a Wollen

It does perilously approach minimum wage, doesn't it? Eh, maybe I can save up for a couple of months and go higher. Do you have someone you use regularly?
  17. Re: Does anyone know a cheap send-away place that can do a very basic CLA on a Wollen

I've looked into it, but I... I can't. I've ruined a shutter before. Thankfully it was just a little tiny Compur on a Certo Dollina 2 35mm folding rangefinder, but I don't think I will trust myself...
  18. Does anyone know a cheap send-away place that can do a very basic CLA on a Wollensak

Hey, so I've mentioned in the past that the front shutter (standard Wollensak-made "Graphex" in an Optar 135mm) on my Pacemaker Speed Graphic is gummy--as in, the slow speeds don't work at all, the...
  19. Re: Has anyone here done three-color photography on B/W with a Speed Graphic or simil

Oh, I'll certainly get around to it. A working front shutter will probably be the prerequisite... I come to realize that this is going to take more precise exposures than I can manage using the time...
  20. Re: Has anyone here done three-color photography on B/W with a Speed Graphic or simil

Guys, I'm sorry I started this. Obviously whether done hybrid or not, it's a difficult process to pull off that requires thoughtful preparation as well as some real time spent experimenting with...

Re: Is it worth it to buy this Beseler enlarger?

I definitely think it can do 4x5"--while it doesn't have a carrier for 4x5" the opening is definitely large enough.

    Pics probably Monday.
  24. Re: Has anyone here done three-color photography on B/W with a Speed Graphic or simil

Well, thank you for the advice. I haven't used TMX100 in 4x5" size yet. Certainly I won't try this with Shanghai 100!
  25. Re: Has anyone here done three-color photography on B/W with a Speed Graphic or simil

Oh, I certainly wasn't drawing any inference that you were discouraging me! What you said is definitely a good idea for anyone looking to try it who has a DSLR.

Re: Is it worth it to buy this Beseler enlarger?

I looked those up and they show similarities but look much newer. This is definitively a solidly antique piece of hardware.
  27. Re: Has anyone here done three-color photography on B/W with a Speed Graphic or simil

For me personally, I don't own a DSLR or really any digital camera except my phone. I don't mind devoting a few B/W sheets and the chemicals to develop them, though. From everything I've seen I...
  28. Re: Has anyone here done three-color photography on B/W with a Speed Graphic or simil

I have the Cokin holder, but did they even make a mount that'll attach the holder to the Optar's (*googles it frantically*) 38mm filter threads?
  29. Re: Has anyone here done three-color photography on B/W with a Speed Graphic or simil

Oh, yes, unless I decide to invest in that enlarger, I am pretty much just hybrid.
  30. Re: Fumbling towards a correct exposure for Dry Plates

  33. Re: Has anyone here done three-color photography on B/W with a Speed Graphic or simil

Yeah, I just saw an Adapt-A-Roll 620 back on eBay where the seller through in some of those. They didn't look like they were the same size or in good shape, but it was interesting to see.
  34. Re: Has anyone here done three-color photography on B/W with a Speed Graphic or simil

I've looked at them for the general convenience of shooting faster, and I don't think I'll go that route. First off, they're very expensive (for my budget) on the used market in good shape, and...
  35. Re: Fumbling towards a correct exposure for Dry Plates

I need to just get one. I've wondered if I can very indirectly light my darkroom with an old "infrared" heater floodlamp I used for a lizard cage back in the day... I'd worry about it having blue or...

Is it worth it to buy this Beseler enlarger?

So I know the whereabouts of a big Beseler enlarger for sale. I don't know the model number, or even if the wiring is sound (but I am good at rewiring things.)

    It's big, probably weighs...
  37. Re: Fumbling towards a correct exposure for Dry Plates

When you solve Sunny Sixteen for a given film speed, it remains accurate down to ASA 1 and below. (With the exception of Doremus Scudder's post above, I've never actually seen speeds below ASA 1...

  39. Re: Has anyone here done three-color photography on B/W with a Speed Graphic or simil

Wonderful. Thanks, Corran! So blue's the slowest. I wouldn't have guessed that!
  40. Re: Has anyone here done three-color photography on B/W with a Speed Graphic or simil

Alright, if I do this I'll probably go with the same filters you used then. Thanks again for the info.

If 3 stops is too much for r25, what did you use, about two and half? Two?
