  1. Re: Is it worth it to use the Speed Graphic handheld from time to time?

Use High-power Xenon flash when hand-holding. Then it all makes sense....sharp lens, accurate rangefinder, large format, absence of motion without a tripod or gyro stabilizer, enough light to stop...

Re: LPL 4550XL + Heiland LED Explainer?

Heat is transmitted a number of ways. One is by electromagnetic radiation which originates from either LED or incandescent. If one thinks a high power LED enlarger light source won't heat a negative,...
  3. Re: Durst CLS 1840 Color Enlarger Rewire Question

Can you show this Dimmable 220V LED replacement for the CLS2000? I don't know it and does not appear Drew knows it either.

    I know the following:
    1) Original lamp (Colamp2000/Thorn HX27). These...
  4. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

The 'timer input' of the EST1000 triggers the exposure sequence which includes bulb-preheat, shutter opening. I believe the Triacs in the unit control the lamp. I believe very little current flows...

Re: Viewing Lights in the Darkroom?

I have always used quartz halogen lamps over the washing bath and bleaching area but I see led technology has improved offer similar color temp. I actually have a bunch of MR16 LEDs in front of me...
  6. Re: Durst CLS 1840 Color Enlarger Rewire Question

If you can find an EST1000 and 1000W lamp, you could convert your head back to the original state.

Another option is to find an EST2000 (not the EST2000-N). That older model switches between 220V...

Re: How sharp can I expect from 4X5

Sharpness is an illusion created in the darkroom when printing. Selection of paper grade, focus, negative grain, enlargement ratio all come into play. Photographers make good looking prints, not...

Re: Idea for a thread on sharing image scans

Most of my prints are 16x20, and my wife's office scanner is only 8x11" So I'd have to photograph the work to post it here. In that case, viewers could guess at the copy camera lens personality and...
  9. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

I believe the negative carrier will be dictated by the chassis on which the CLS head sits. L184 vs L1840 vs FOTAR or other.
  10. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

Again, knowing Jens put your system together makes me feel more comfortable about seeing the CLS1840 mated to an EST2000-N. I had initially thought you just got a hodge-podge assembly of components...
  11. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

You have the 2000W 220V lamp like this one that is currently for sale:

  12. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

If the EST2000-N is putting out the 220V that it normally would, then the 120V 1000W lamp will fry!

I'd just use the setup you have now and try to get a spare 220V 2000w lamp. There is one on ebay...
  13. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

I don't know what that brown is at the base of the lamp. I'd probably get a new lamp.

If found the most "on time" for my lamp was during composing and cropping. So, I have created tables for all...
  14. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

Looks like the 220V 2000W lamp. If this was a Durst-Pro 2000W conversion, then I suspect it is probably done well. Again, all my dealings with Durst-Pro were favorable, and Jens was helpful and...
  15. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

That would be another version of the story. That is, the EST2000 was modified to only power a 1000w bulb at 120V.
I'd think changes to an EST2000 to reduce it to 1000W might be very difficult,...
  16. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

At first I thought the best thing would be for you to try an get a working EST1000 to match that CLS1840 head. But these things are so rare these days, maybe getting your two units working safely is...

Remove the two thumbscrews and the bar which holds the lamp will lift out. The lamp is not attached to the reflector.

Here are the pin-outs for the connector (EST2000 on LEFT and EST1000 on RIGHT). It does look like they may match up. Still scary.

  19. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

Ok, this is what I see:

    The chassis is a L184

    The head is CLS1840 1000W

The power supply is for the CLS2000 2000W.

The fan is rigged up to suck.
  20. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

Did you start a thread on your enlarger? Otherwise, pictures please, post them here! One little mistake plugging things in wrong could lead to tears!
All the L1840 power supplies take a 220V input,...
  21. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

The 1000W Colamp 1840 will likely fry in an instant at 240V! I don't think it will fit in the socket anyway.

Why do you think it is too bright, The CLS2000 is only one-stop faster than the...
  22. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

The blowers on the CLS2000 are pretty loud, hard to miss. Like two hair blow-driers.

Check you bulb. It should be a 1000W 120V Colamp1840 like this.

Here is a CLS2000 setup on the "Footprints" brokerage site. Not too bad at $4000USD. I got just about the same setup with the Negateil, the mixing boxes and a box of lenses with around $2000USD...
  27. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

Yes, I found the CLS1840 schematic and it only shows the single Lufter (fan).

Out of curiosity does the CLS1840 have this opening that blows on the negative holder?

From what I can tell, the CLS1840 is similar to the CLS2000 pictured here.

When you get the CLS1840 you should get the EST1000 with it and some light box diffusers. The light box diffusers are in two parts, upper and lower. You will need a timer, as the timing unit is...
  32. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

The below is a quote from the technical literature.

I believe the CLS heads mount with the same 4 bolts that hold the condenser head in place.
  35. Re: Contrast control with Delta 100 and Rodinal

Since this is posted in the darkroom section, usually one would match film development to the printing paper used. There are many good books on the subject.

For every negative to paper distance that can be focused for an enlargement, a reduction can be focused at the same negative to paper distance.

This is easier to experience with 8x10 enlargers,...

Google is only good if you already know the answer. The second dark ages is already here. I'd recommend a book on photography. There were many published and not all burned yet.
