Re: Lenses for new 5x7 / 6x17 kit

Since you are new, you will have to figure out for yourself if you can focus and compose comfortably with your camera and f9 lenses. In my years of experience, a lens with focal length equal to the...

Not sure where Santa Cruz is, but our neighbor's tabby cat got out last week. This incident created quite a stir with the murine and ornithological wildlife in the microenvironmenet between the...

Re: advice for a 8x10 setup for portrait

There have been many threads and posts on using a view camera as an enlarger. Especially since LED light sources can be easily obtained. However, I have not seen many explanations of how people are...

  5. Re: Midtone Machines - Automatic Film Processing Machine

I tested Patterson reels in the mid 1980s with rotary processing and found the plastic spiral comes too close to the image area of 120 film and I got over-development at the very edges. Films and...

    Re: Alignment workflow (architechture)

Only one condition need to be satisfied:

    1) Film plane parallel to the building

Any issue with the camera base being off 'level' can be easily corrected by rotation during printing, so this...
  7. Re: Would a Horseman Super ER 75/5.6 work on a WISTA RF?

Should work fine with ground glass focusing as I don't think the rangefinder can accept that focal length. With a 6x6cm back you will get ample movement. If using a 6x9 back the movement available is...
  8. Re: Using VC Filters in Super Chromega E Dichroic II

The filters fit under the mixing box and are unlikely to suffer immediate effects of heat anymore so than the plastic diffusor on the bottom of the mixing box.

    Re: Sensitometer For B&W Film?

Enlarger exposure time can be problematic because many enlarger timers don't go below 1 second. Making a sensitometer is not that hard, but make very sure of two things. 1) The field on which the...

  11. Re: Using VC Filters in Super Chromega E Dichroic II

If you have a chance to check the Chromega E before purchase, you can look to see if it has the same provisions for gelatin filters as the Chromega D. Below is a clip from the Chromega D manual:

    Re: Sensitometer For B&W Film?

To use the sensitometer a calibrated step wedge is paced in contact with the film. Yes, without that part, the machine is useless.

  17. Re: Durst CLS 1840 Color Enlarger Rewire Question

The way my EST2000-N runs with the CLS2000 head is that the two fans always run when the 2000W lamp is ON. They also will turn off when the main lamp is off. However, if the internal temp. sensors...

I use an undiluted acetone solution. It will wick itself into the threads and frequently will relax any agent placed on the threads to lock the ring in place during initial assembly.

Fujinon 180mm. Image circle claim is 305mm and it covers the opening in my 8x10 film holders.
I got this for about $175, I think they might cost more now, but maybe not.

Re: LPL 4550XL + Heiland LED Explainer?

Can you show this Dimmable 220V LED replacement for the CLS2000? I don't know it and does not appear Drew knows it either.

The 'timer input' of the EST1000 triggers the exposure sequence which includes bulb-preheat, shutter opening. I believe the Triacs in the unit control the lamp. I believe very little current flows...

  28. Re: Durst CLS 1840 Color Enlarger Rewire Question

If you can find an EST1000 and 1000W lamp, you could convert your head back to the original state.

Another option is to find an EST2000 (not the EST2000-N). That older model switches between 220V...

Re: How sharp can I expect from 4X5

Sharpness is an illusion created in the darkroom when printing. Selection of paper grade, focus, negative grain, enlargement ratio all come into play. Photographers make good looking prints, not...

  31. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

  32. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

Again, knowing Jens put your system together makes me feel more comfortable about seeing the CLS1840 mated to an EST2000-N. I had initially thought you just got a hodge-podge assembly of components...

  34. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

If the EST2000-N is putting out the 220V that it normally would, then the 120V 1000W lamp will fry!

I'd just use the setup you have now and try to get a spare 220V 2000w lamp. There is one on ebay...
  35. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

I don't know what that brown is at the base of the lamp. I'd probably get a new lamp.

If found the most "on time" for my lamp was during composing and cropping. So, I have created tables for all...
  36. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

Looks like the 220V 2000W lamp. If this was a Durst-Pro 2000W conversion, then I suspect it is probably done well. Again, all my dealings with Durst-Pro were favorable, and Jens was helpful and...
  37. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

That would be another version of the story. That is, the EST2000 was modified to only power a 1000w bulb at 120V.
I'd think changes to an EST2000 to reduce it to 1000W might be very difficult,...
  38. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

At first I thought the best thing would be for you to try an get a working EST1000 to match that CLS1840 head. But these things are so rare these days, maybe getting your two units working safely is...
  39. Re: Durst L1840 Enlarger 8x10 10x10--Everything you wanted to know...

Remove the two thumbscrews and the bar which holds the lamp will lift out. The lamp is not attached to the reflector.

Here are the pin-outs for the connector (EST2000 on LEFT and EST1000 on RIGHT). It does look like they may match up. Still scary.
