I use a torpedo level in two axis for large format.

I shoot FP4 in just about all formats. It's easy to work with. I process with HC110. I photo outdoors almost entirely.

Lots of abandoned buildings in the small towns on the Northern Plains. It's been fairly warm this winter, usually above 20 F in the daytime. I don't have much trouble...
Try cleaning them with lighter fluid and tissue, then dry. I've put a thin coating of anti seize white grease on all my threads.

I think a major driver of cost is image circle.

I've been happy with the Fuji 210A inside-writing on my 8x10.
Kent in SD
Yes it will. I have the previous model v700 and have often scanned 8x10.

Just get a Stearman Press SP-810. You can easily load it in a tent, then everything else can be done on your kitchen counter or where ever. These are fool proof and you can do 4x5 and 8x10 in them...
The fog here mostly develops when temps are in the 20s F. The result is the land turns white wirh hoar frost.

Blue Moon has done mine in the past. Now I just do my own.

Why would they care if small groups were out backpacking?

Are you looking at the f scale on a very old lens that doesn't show f11? If so, remember that is the old "U.S." scale, not the modern f scale. F16 is f16, but what says f8 is really f11 and so on....
That is the part in question.

I drove 300 miles west to the Badlands NP today, four hour drive one way. Pulled out my Kodak 2D 8x10 and intended to take some tin types. Set up the camera at one spot, didn't find a composition. ...
On a wet plate you generally have about 10 minutes to develop it. Much longer than that and it will dry out and the image is destroyed. It will simply dry up and the collodion curls off. Dry...
I own about a dozen, all from the 19th Century. About the only advantage I can think of is they are cheaper. I use them to shoot wet plate so lack of a shutter is not a big deal.

Normal here except there won't be the big Christmas concert at the Cathedral. I'm bummed about that--I go every year. Oh well.

I have a Wollensak 300mm f4.5 Velostigmat (uncoated) in Betax. Love that lens.

There have been no restrictions in my region, but my routine has been hampered. Usually my wife & I take three or four long distance trips per year (often overseas), but not this year. We've only...
Virtually impossible to ID the lenses. There were a lot of makers. The camera looks English.

Try lengthening development time by another 5 or 10 seconds and see what happens.
Kent in SD
That usually means either you didn't develop long enough or didn't rinse well enough after developing. I rinse mine until the water runs clear.

I just got four 9x12cm plate holders for a 1920s camera I'm having restored (it's beautiful!) The holders felt heavy so I took them into my darkroom and turned on the red light. Sure enough there...
Did you try a strap wrench on it?

I've come to prefer the hard rubber trays with ridges on the bottom.

I have a Kodak 2d 8x10, Gundlach korona 5x7, and Chamonix 4x5. Talk about a coincidence!
Kent in SD
There are many older 5x7 cameras out there. They are not only solid but also beautiful. Main drawback to 5x7 is lack of color film.

Look for a used Gitzo 1325. It will do what you want and used ones are a helluva of a value. I ve had one since 2006. It's never failed and even holds my Kodak 2d 8x10 in a pinch.

Because of the snow storm moving in from the west today, I didn't go very far. I headed south on I-29 to a large country church I haven't photo'd before....
I took Wednesday off and intended to drive west to the Badlands and try some wet plate photos. However, a winter storm was making I-90 an icy mess for several hundred miles. So, I went north...
I never use a UV filter and have never had a lens damaged in 40 years. I am an outdoor photographer and photo in all the conditions the Northern Plains can dish out. I do use lens caps routinely.

Yes, it is that tiny! The whole lens/shutter is about 45mm diameter. I think I have found a retaining nut but will keep you in mind in the future.

I have a couple of cameras I'm fixing up to use. The first is an Orionwerk Rio Tropen 9x12cm, c.1925. It needs a couple of brass strips made. One holds the plate holder on the back, the other is...
When you take the rear element group out, are they cemented together or air spaced?
Kent in SD
Doubtful it makes much difference. Air is a good insulator and ligthtning goes through thousands of feet of it.
Kent in SD
WOW! Never would have guessed that but looking at the images that looks correct. The rear bell of the lens was shading the negative.
