    Re: Servicing a tripod head

I recently overhauled a Bogen/Manfrotto head. After disassembly, naptha quickly cleaned the parts and a medium damping grease from Amazon made it silky smooth.

    Yes, but…

It’s much better to have a lens and be taking/making photographs than to be extensively dating potential lenses with which to mate. One doesn’t really need to be wedded to a lens until...

Nikkor had the reputation of being “more contrasty” than its...

  35. Re: How refurbish old Gitzo Rational PL-5 head so forward/back tilt locks solidly?

Cleaning and, oddly enough, greasing the head (damping grease) might fix it right up. That worked on my Bogen head when it started slipping.
  36. Re: How refurbish old Gitzo Rational PL-5 head so forward/back tilt locks solidly?

Even centered and balanced, 30 lb probably exceeds the design spec. I can’t recall (and can’t find it easily on web) but I thought it was rated a lot less than 30 lb.
