Re: Zeiss Protar 8.5cm f18 Bill Brandt lens

90/14 Berthiot Perigraphe Ser. VIa. Covers at least 105 degrees, 234 mm on 4x5. This lens wasn't sold in shutter. The lens in barrel can be stuffed into the front of an Ilex #3 shutter, but to get...
  2. Re: Fujinon 180mm. f/9 - Curious about some specs.

150/5.6 Xenar, 35.5 mm front to back; 210/6.1 Xenar, 49.7 mm. These are more or less the last of the f/6.3 tessar types and are supposed to be the best.

    Re: Compur shutter questions

If I read the photo correctly the front cell's side is engraved Xenar 1:3/5 F - 15 CM. If so, the shutter is larger than a #1. Best to wait until you have it in hand, then measure. In the worst...

    Re: Schneider-Kreuznach Xenar 135mm f4.5

abruzzi mentioned the 210/6.1 Xenar. It and the 150/5.6 Xenar are probably the last versions of the f/6.3 Tessar designed and are supposed to be outstanding lenses. More coverage and sharper than...

    Re: Large format aerial photography...anyone?

Per, it is more likely that the Draken couldn't carry larger (4.5" x 4.5", 9" x 9") aerial cameras as used by, e.g., USAF and RAF. Vinten's F95, which shot 6x6 on 70 mm film, was used by many air...

Impossible to be sure, but it sounds like a single cell. Is there a barrel in the middle? Is it engraved Ser. IXa?

    Re: Ortho-protar (Zeiss) 19 cm 1:25

The Ortho-Protar is an f/8 six elements in two groups orthoscopic (low distortion) lens. According to a 1910 Zeiss catalog it is suitable for all "scales of reproduction." In other words, for all...

PMFJI. That would lose an important part of the Speed Graphic functionality. Speed.

    Re: Repro Claron Question

Lens abuse. Schneider claims that the 210/9 RC covers 178 mm at infinity, aperture not specified. 46 degrees, pretty much the norm for process dialytes.

    Re: Repro Claron Question

I b'lieve that my former 55/8 Repro Claron's outer elements -- remember, these lenses are 4/4 dialyte types -- were the radioactive ones.

Doremus, thanks for the kind word. So you'll know, when I look at myself in the mirror I don't see a guru, I see a silly old man.

  21. Re: Grandagon vs. Grandagon-N vs. Nikkor lenses. A light fall-off question.

Hmm. Another optimistic optimizer trying to optimize in considerable, as Bob mentioned, ignorance.

The better is the enemy of the good. That said, both lenses are better than good enough.
  22. Re: Grandagon vs. Grandagon-N vs. Nikkor lenses. A light fall-off question.

Depends on the prescription. Some want thicker elements than others.
  23. Re: Grandagon vs. Grandagon-N vs. Nikkor lenses. A light fall-off question.

Mechanical design? Barrel material? Same design type, different prescriptions? Different design type -- the 90/8 SA is six elements in four groups, the 90/8 Nikkor SW is eight/four.
  24. Re: Opinion: Would a 90mm f8 or f6.8 lens be too dark for dawn and dusk landscape?

Exactly. Patience helps a lot. FWIW, I found one of my with a Google search. The seller was Spanish camera store. Chain, actually.
  25. Re: Opinion: Would a 90mm f8 or f6.8 lens be too dark for dawn and dusk landscape?

The ones you listed are functionally equivalent. Same threading, same correction.

  27. Re: Looking for advice on Red Dot Artar / Film coverage at various reductions.

The RD Artar brochure (download it from http://web.archive.org/web/20170606145746/http://www.pacificrimcamera.com/rl/00268/00268.pdf) talks about reductions and enlargement.

    Reduction means that...
  28. Re: Opinion: Would a 90mm f8 or f6.8 lens be too dark for dawn and dusk landscape?

Alan, what do you want to know about them?
  29. Re: Opinion: Would a 90mm f8 or f6.8 lens be too dark for dawn and dusk landscape?

Daniel, aperture has nothing to do with cos^4, which center filters more-or-less correct. That said, shooting a wide lens at a large aperture risks mechanical vignetting, which a center filter can't...

    Re: Wide Lenses for 4x5 & 8x10: 90mm to 165mm

Falloff is a property of the lens, not of the film. However, negative films have broader exposure latitude than reversal films so with them falloff can somewhat be dealt with when printing. On the...

Re: Fuji 90mm f8 SW or Nikon 90mm f8 SW

    Re: Recognizing dagor type G-Clarons

Look at a single cell. Either will do because they're identical. Unscrew a cell from the barrel and use a point source of light.

The cells are direct fits in a #1 shutter.

Re: Fuji 90mm f8 SW or Nikon 90mm f8 SW

Hmm. Did you shoot 6x7 without movements? I ask because 90 mm is the normal focal length for 6x7 so without movements a 90 that covers the format should have only minimal falloff.
