    Re: Oriental paper scarcity

B&H still shows warm tone and some cool tone, as special order. if it was EOL'ed, they wouldn't show special order would they ?
  3. Re: Bergger new lower pricing for 2020 and Introducing Bergger PrintFilm

    Re: Hasselblad Flextight 343

you shld be able to get good 4x5 scans with the 850 and wet. What seems to be lacking in your scans ?

  10. Re: Camera Selection: Tachihara, Toyo 45Aii or xxxxxx?

hmmm, this might be the missing component in my kit...lol
  11. Re: Pre-soak for manual 4x5 B&W development in a Jobo tank?

I used to presoak in 15xx and Experts and tbh, never noticed any difference. So for me, I stopped presoaks for Jobo, and hand inversion.
  12. Re: Scanner, enlarger, or contact printer? Which one and why???

upside of scanning is that if LF is not your thing there are other uses for the scanner. darkroom equipment on the other hand...

I say this as someone who scans when necessary and it's enough, but...
  13. Re: Scanner, enlarger, or contact printer? Which one and why???

as suggested, look at finding a Crown Graphic (or it's siblings). it won't have many movements (front titl requires flipping the front standard base around) but it's a great camera to work with as...
  14. Re: Scanner, enlarger, or contact printer? Which one and why???

So, I also find 4x5 contacts a bit too small for my liking. 5x7 however is a really, really nice size.

4x5 will be easier to enlarge as those enlargers are all over the place and easy to find....

Re: Intellifaucet D250 - sticking valves

Wonder if it's related to hardness of water ? Also, do you have CLR where u are ? It's for clearing Calcium, Lime and Rust (CLR) and possibly a stronger alternative to acetic acid.
  16. Re: I'm trying Fiber papers for the first time.

Filtration that may look great on MGFB may not work with another brand. You're not going to be able to translate print data from one paper to another imo. Same with developing times. With Formulary...
  17. Re: First Forey Into 8x10 Format/ Intrepid 8x10 Camera

iirc, focusing with the film plane changes the size of the subject. lens plane focusing less so, if at all. If I wanted to change the composition slightly, I would adjust it by racking the film plane...

    Re: Darkroom setup: your thoughts

to add to the electrical outlet talk, I'd add a few to the ceiling for safelights. and definitely go gfci in the darkroom. you don't need to make every outlet gfci, as those downstream from a gfci...

    Re: Darkroom setup: your thoughts

I presume the space is on the main floor (vs basement). I'd be inclined to ditch the door idea and go with black out curtains. Will depend on whether there's lots of traffic in the hall outside the...

    Re: Ansco 130 - 1:1 or 1:2?

I also use it 1:2 for 3 minutes but have left prints bathing for up to 5 minutes to see if I can get anything else from the highlights, or shadows.

Re: FB Enlarging paper availability at B&H

I've never used Foma, but Bergger Neutral is now my main paper. Maybe give that paper a whirl ? I'm also still trying to figure out the new Oriental, cuz the price is sooooo good.

  25. Re: Questions about 4x5 film developed by local lab

you've got a number of issues here. the light leak might be from the holder not seated properly in the back. I always try to make sure the rib lock is engaged (should hear a click as the holder seats...

    Re: Cold Temp Paper Washing

I'd probably try a very low flow rate. not sure what Versalab suggests but I often run as low as 250 ml per minute in my 11x14 Summitek washer.

    Re: 8x10 film processing

while I currently use Jobo Expert tanks, I will sometimes still use Simma print drums on their roller base. The drum I use can do 4 4x5 sheets or a single 8x10. The Simma roller base has an eccentric...

    Re: 8x10 film processing

If one has the budget, this is definitely the way to go. Super consistency, less chemistry needed...Mine has seen tons of use, but for some reason I'm kinda jonesing for the Stark processor.

    Re: Intrepid 8x10 experiences?

The big selling points of the Intrepid, are the weight, or lack of, and the cost. But I'd suggest looking at what you really want out of an 8x10 camera and how important those two things are. I was a...

triple lens turret is pulled out same as single boards. grip the tab and pull. undo bolts that secure lens boards and swap onto another board.

    Re: identifying an Omega enlarger

yup, certain EL-Nikkor 50 lenses won't allow the turret to spin. Either add another board to decrease lens depth, or use another version of the EL that will work.

The community lab I volunteer at has a room full of these, minus the dichroic head. None have the microfocus from what I can recall. btw, are you missing the head elevation lever ?

Re: Citric and acetic acid as stop (bath)

I use a water stop for all films. Agitation is important and will usually do two changes. For fiber prints, I use citric acid, one tablespoon per litre. The citric acid I use is food grade, and one I...

  38. Re: Once again: streaks when developing *some* fiber based paper in Jobo 3063

When I process 7x17 negs, I use a Simma print roller base vs the Jobo. Also process in ABS tubes that conveniently are the same diameter as the Simma 8x10 drum caps.

Hope you figure this out !
  39. Re: Once again: streaks when developing *some* fiber based paper in Jobo 3063

I dunno, but that doesn't sound like enough developer for 16x20 fiber prints. I don't use Experts for paper but I'd probably start with 1 litre. You're reusing it anyways right ?
