In my opinion, each scan must contain unexposed film borders. Such areas will make for true Dark point.
White point and neutral Gray is always a challenge if the scanned image does not contain such...
Try to apply your method to an image with just green leaves, grass, etc or a still lake with reflected cloudless sky or any other image where there is no anything close to white and neutral...
Elements can't work with 16-bit per channel files
I will through some ideas here. Maybe someone will bring them to fruition one day...
If by converting digitized color negatives into positive images one is looking to reproduce the...
Booz does not go bad and there is a lot of other items at Costco that don't go bad and are cheaper than elsewhere ;)
There was another thread about upcoming 20% prices increase by Kodak, just a couple months ago.
Some did not see, some ignored, some took it as a joke while others filled-up their freezers
...
And no LF gear ...
It is for me as it can be done in daylight and very quickly and reliably.
I hear the same about dealing with any kind of film or film equipment from a lot of "digital" photographers.
...
Converting\modifying a camera like that would be a crime.
One can use any 120 film roll back to quickly and painlessly respool forward. The respooling back will be all "manual" still.
That looks more like Columbia Finger (10360 ft / 3158 m)
Or, maybe, we just have different opinions on things
I think it comes down to extremes.
If you have an F8 lens then in most cases it should allow you to make properly composed and focused exposures. But then there would be border line cases where one...
It could be because of the Mac that I use to drive it. I noticed it sits at the end and stitches for a long time.
Drew,
I do not think you read me ever advocating for "fix everything in post" or "saturation is king".
BTW,
* I know at least 4 ways to deal with "saturation" or vibrancy without touching...
Makes me wonder how we arrived to such specifics from a question about film DR ?
Speaking of colors...
Sure, there are many factors that impact color rendition, but when it comes to outdoor...
I use the same but with no CF.
Step up from 82mm to 95mm , optional 95mm polarizer , 100mm Lee filters
I am exposing my film in natural light only.
ISO 100 mostly. Meter settings in the previous post are for the ISO 100 (sorry, I had to mention that).
I find that outside of that range the images...
I always measure at that setting and then translate into the actual gear (camera\lens) settings
My math teacher kept saying that if students don't do match their brain become moldy...
To be precise it is :
Lens > Step-up Ring to 95mm Thread > Screw-in Filter (e.g. Polariser, UV Filter) > Lee 95mm Standard Adapter Ring (there isn't a 95mm Wide Angle Ring) (now NiSi which...
My rules for using color positive film are:
Anything at or below 1/60 @ F8 is fine.
Anything 1/80 @ F8 is border line (better to skip it)
Anything above 1/125 @ F8 - I don't do it.
I used the original Lee for a long time.
Always with the largest adapter ring (95mm) and a set of regular step-up rings from 49mm up to 95mm (cost, space and weight saving solution)
It was pretty...
Box speed it is. I find it working the best with all color negative films and scanning.
Do you want to guess his name ?
Drew probably knows him...
My take - his initials are likely CB.
Drew, I have nothing against video, other than , despite many similarities, it is in a different realm from still.
You can find many examples of "quality video" produced by photographers (vlogs of...
Drew makes a good point.
Very often I fine-tune my camera position by adjusting tripod legs, instead of messing around with head controls.
Next step is to get rid of the head :)
I used that as an analogy and since this is a photo forum it was in context of taking still images only.
People who use digital for more or less professional work are interested in flexibility,...
TIFs can contain compressed data. If that's the case, it will err the formula.
Also one can save into an 8-bit per channel TIF.
The reality is that all modern sensors are capable of producing equally good images with very similar color rendition. When saving in RAW manufactures' differences between brands become mostly...
There is a never-ending debate over Canon vs Nikon vs Sony vs Fuji vs Brand X color science in D-world.
Reading too much of that stuff sooner or later leads to a conclusion that there no D-camera...
Velvia 50 in 120 format is not part of discontinuation and apparently will be kept in production for some time. Could never make myself like it enough in 4x5 to bother due to (in order of priority)...
Is it a selfie ?
Michael should be able to tell you by selecting a 4x5 or 8x10 area in Oxygen and entering either the file size (3.5 GB) and let OXYGen to determine the resolution or
Changing the resolution until...
>> And sorry, Sergy - no inkjet on earth can approximate that look when seriously optimized. It's physically impossible for inherent technical reasons.
Well, Drew, the same holds true in the...
Printing on an InkJet is not a one push of a button process.
Like anything, it requires certain skills and experience to get the expected(great) results consistently.
On the technical part it...
I have had this kind of issue 2-3 times when I just started with LF . Each time the film was inserted onto wrong rails (dark slide rail at least on one side of the holder instead of the film one)....
Here is what I have done for years developing in an Expert tank with not a single issue
* Pre-soak for 4-5 minutes
* Constantly rotate in one direction only
* Take the tank off of the base and...
I make 4x5 to 4x6 proof prints from any film formats from 135 to 4x5 and love them.
Quite a few just "shine" at such smaller size compared to even 8x10.
