    Thank you Bob. Just to clarify - the III of 1946 was 9x12/4x5 and the 5x7 III was out in 1950. A 5x7 II was available following the war.

    Thanks Bob, I did not see any clamp other than the one to clamp the 90mm headpiece. The braces between the legs and the shaft detach easily which would lead me to believe the shaft should be as well...

    Rather similar to this large ball head of 1952 vintage. Even if you can imagine the rotating collar removed from mine it is not quite the same shape where it holds the ball...
