Yes, best selection of any of the large format. And the least expensive by far.

What do you want to take photos of? They are different cameras. I have a Chamonix and really like it.

  5. Re: Looking for a brass 8x10 barrel style lens with either rotating aperture or iris

You may have some trouble fitting a preexisting hole. Watch for rapid rectilinear lens that covers 8x10 and ask seller what outside diameter is.

    I paid for x2 5x7 and x1 4x5. I should be in the system.

With more holders out there your next problem will be keeping up with plate demand.

You can date the lens by the serial number. I'm guessing somewhere around 1900.

  15. Re: Allowing Lens Availability to Dictate Format Choice

A year ago I bought a 12 in. Voightlander Petzval c1862 with flange for $500. I love that lens! Have it on a 5x7 Korona right now, will eventually get either full plate or 8x10 for it.

    I do...
  16. Re: Allowing Lens Availability to Dictate Format Choice

Could it just be that a relative handful of people are buying dozens of lenses? I have x8 lenses made before 1860 and three more made 1861-1865, plus about 6 made 1900-1930 and 5 modern lenses...

    Darlot Rectilinears

Wondering about Darlot RR lenses (hemispherique.) What order were they produced? Some have rotary stops--I figure those are 1880-1890s. Then there are the ones with stops attached to levers

  22. Re: When did decent wide angles show up? [lens history question]

I have a couple of 90mm & 100mm Dagors in very early shutters. I'm thinking 1910 and 1920 on them. They seem to cover 4x5.
