  1. Arista EDU Ultra 400 (8x10) With Rodinal. Any thoughts on dilution and speed?

    Hi,

This week I shoot my first 8x10 sheet film. I am going to shoot Arista EDU Ultra 400 and develop it with Rodinal. Any thoughts on what speed I should shoot it at and what dilution and time I...
  2. Re: New Lens Scale: How To Convert Milliseconds To Standard Camera Fractions?

    Hi everyone,

Thanks for all the help. I am writing notes on my lens board and light meter based on peoples advice. I just want to confirm the strategies I can take with this lens. The strategies...
  3. The F.64 BPX Back Pack does not seem to have a place for a tripod. What do people do?

I bought this bag for my Intrepid 8x10. I saw that many large format photographers used it. But I do not see a place for a tripod. What do most people do when it comes to hiking with it? I am not...
  4. Re: New Lens Scale: How To Convert Milliseconds To Standard Camera Fractions?

    Hi Everyone,

This was really helpful. I guess the take away is that the shutter is a half-stop slow and the 400 should be rewritten to 250. Some of the information was a little more complex and I...
  5. New Lens Scale: How To Convert Milliseconds To Standard Camera Fractions?

    Hi,

I just got this shutter tested but I don’t understand the results. Obviously I need to change the scale on the shutter to get the images to come out correctly but I am not sure how to do this...

  7. Re: My first Lens. Symmar-S 6,8 /360 in a Copal 3 shutter. What next?

    Thank you Tin Can,

I have a retaining ring I just don't know what is going on with it. I might need a larger ring or I might need to twist the back and front together harder so it locks down. Or I...
  8. Re: My first Lens. Symmar-S 6,8 /360 in a Copal 3 shutter. What next?

So right now this is a little bit beyond my expertise. I tried to put it on a lens board. I tightened it with my hands and I could not get it to work. Right now the lens is just flopping around on...
  9. Re: My first Lens. Symmar-S 6,8 /360 in a Copal 3 shutter. What next?

Why can't I just count from the largest opening. So if the lens in front says 6.8 and the shutter says 5.6 then the lens is just constantly one half stop off, correct. If 5.6 is really 6.8 I think...
  10. Re: My first Lens. Symmar-S 6,8 /360 in a Copal 3 shutter. What next?

So what do we think the image circle is about? I assume it is ok for 8x10?

Also, what do we think about the mismatch between the fstops on the lens and the fstops on the shutter? Does it matter?...
  11. Re: My first Lens. Symmar-S 6,8 /360 in a Copal 3 shutter. What next?

Mark, the goal is to use it for 8x10 film. My guess is that the shutter was replaced because the widest f-stop on the barrel ( 6,8 ) does not line up with the widest f-stop on the shutter....
  12. My first Lens. Symmar-S 6,8 /360 in a Copal 3 shutter. What next?

I bought my first 8x10 lens. Well at least I think it did. Not exactly what I was looking for and could not find much info on it but the price was right and I needed to make a quick decision on it....
  13. Re: Using TF2 as my main fixer while traveling.

Has anyone ever carried a bottle of TF-4 or TF-5 on a plane before?
  14. Re: Using TF2 as my main fixer while traveling.

Other possibility is to order from amazon international but that will cost me $50 for only one small package of fixer.

i was thinking I can just mix the fixer up into individually small bags and...
  15. Re: Using TF2 as my main fixer while traveling.

I am going to be traveling for a few months. I looked into leaving the fixer behind and just buy sodium thiosulfate from pool cleaning stores as I travel but I don't see them being available to me. ...
  16. Using TF2 as my main fixer while traveling.

I would like to use TF-2 for all of my films. I know it is not recommended for modern T-grain films but is that only because of the time it takes to fix those films. Also, how long should you fix...
  17. Re: I need some advice on choosing my first two large format lenses.

The other thing I keep thinking about is what people are saying about buying a single lens. Maybe i am thinking too much like a 35mm shooter. I am looking at taking pictures of people living and...
  18. Re: I need some advice on choosing my first two large format lenses.

Big thanks to everyone particularly Vaughn for the help. I am trying to process what people are talking about. There is a bit of a learning curve here.

    1) What is the plasmat 300mm f5.6? Is it...
  19. Re: I need some advice on choosing my first two large format lenses.

    Yes. Good point.
  20. Re: I need some advice on choosing my first two large format lenses.

    Hi,

Thanks again everyone for the input. This is really helping me narrow down what I think I need to do. Ideally I would like to travel with at least two lenses. What Vaughan said about the...
  21. I need some advice on choosing my first two large format lenses.

    Hi,

I think I am going to buy an Intrepid 8x10. I need some advice on choosing my first two large format lenses. Someone in this forum suggested a 12-inch Ektar. That looks like good advice but...
  22. Re: What, if any, are the drawbacks to owning a Kodak Master View 8x10?

I think mark is definitely correct about swapping out the ground glass.
  23. Re: What, if any, are the drawbacks to owning a Kodak Master View 8x10?

    Hi Mark,

I can not find the Wehman 8x10 at all on the web. It looks really interesting though. I will keep an eye out for it.

I did get lucky and recently found two old film holders in an...
  24. Re: What, if any, are the drawbacks to owning a Kodak Master View 8x10?

    Hi Everyone,

I would like to thank everyone on the site for their help. In particular I would like to thank both Dave and Paul for their help and insights. Sorry it took me so long to respond. I...

I would love to see your DIY cameras.

  26. Re: What, if any, are the drawbacks to owning a Kodak Master View 8x10?

    Hi Paul,

First, I would like to say your images are F###ING AMAZING! Second, I am so glad you wrote me back. I could not find anything but complaints about the intrepid. I tried to do some...
  27. Re: What, if any, are the drawbacks to owning a Kodak View Master 8x10?

    Mark,

Thanks for the help with the lens. I will research them tonight.

  28. Re: What, if any, are the drawbacks to owning a Kodak View Master 8x10?

My Calumet C-1 is 19 lbs. I decided to take a walk with it. If it is a short walk it is ok but going a long way with 19 lbs is really hard. The Intrepid Black is really light but all I can find is...
  29. What, if any, are the drawbacks to owning a Kodak Master View 8x10?

    Hi,

I am having a hard time making a decision about buying my first 8x10 camera. I am not a wealthy person. I got lucky and found a really good Calumet C-1 for free but it turned out to be way too...
  30. Re: I would like some advice on what type of camera I should buy for a long photo tri

    Hi Scott,

Thank you so much for the information it was helpful.

  31. Re: Traveling with chemicals on a long trip? Can I get some advice on what to bring?

I am sorry guys. I am giving a hard no to the caffenol suggestion. It is just as easy to mix a simple developer like Thordons two-bath and I kind of trust that a lot more.
  32. Re: Traveling with chemicals on a long trip? Can I get some advice on what to bring?

The superfix taps look interesting. Are the superfix tabs safe with a pyro developer? Don't you need to develop everything in an alkiline for pyro?
  33. Re: Traveling with chemicals on a long trip? Can I get some advice on what to bring?

    Hi Jantz,

Definitely a good question. Chemicals can be nasty stuff so I plan on doing the same thing with the chemicals while traveling as I do while I am at home in the United States. At times ...
  34. Traveling with chemicals on a long trip? Can I get some advice on what to bring?

    Hi Everyone,

I am gearing up for a 6 month long photographic trip in the Andes. I will be taking an 8x10 camera. I want to develop the film as I travel. Any ideas? I think I will take a highly...
  35. Re: I would like some advice on what type of camera I should buy for a long photo tri

Ok Thom. Now that makes sense.
  36. Re: I would like some advice on what type of camera I should buy for a long photo tri

You used a monopod with an 8x10? I never heard of that before. Isn't that a recipe for a disaster.
  37. Re: I would like some advice on what type of camera I should buy for a long photo tri

    Hi Thom,
Thanks for the advice. What about the weight of the Master View as compared to the Deardorff. I assume the Master View is much lighter. This could be good because heavier means more...
  38. Re: I would like some advice on what type of camera I should buy for a long photo tri

Thanks Gypsydog. You are making a real interesting argument.
  39. Re: I would like some advice on what type of camera I should buy for a long photo tri

I like the idea of bringing grit incase the ground glass breaks but what do you mean "that ship has sailed" when you are talking about a fresnel glass back?
  40. Re: I would like some advice on what type of camera I should buy for a long photo tri

    Hi Scott,

It looks like you spend a lot of time shooting in Mexico. Have you ever used a community darkroom down there? It would be interesting to find one. I do like the idea of developing the...
