    Re: Portable electric room heater

The problem with using extension cords is that they themselves can become heating elements....Ohm's Law, as stated above.

    Re: Light spots on film.

Have you tried more than one box of film?
Looking at the unexposed edges, there is fogging.
My first thought is old, fogged or light-struck film.
How is the film being processed?

    Re: Inexpensive 4x5 field cameras

    Oops, my bad.
I guess the days of a $75 - $100 usable B&J 4x5 Press body have gone the way of $3/gal. gasoline.

    Ben,
If price is your number 1 consideration, get a Burke & James 4x5 Press Camera.
Take all the rangefinder doodads off.

  7. Re: Repair, Maintenance and replacement of COPAL shutters?

A CLA from a qualified repair technician will solve the issue.
That's a common problem with shutters that have sat around for a long time without being used or exercised.

You're on the right track with the light measurement technique.
Another way is do do the math: FL (in mm) divided by aperture opening (in mm) when viewed through the front element....or, FL divided...

My best guess would be that it's some quite old graphic arts film, most likely orthochromatic.

Re: Lenses for landscape w 4x5 camera

I'd recommend starting with a 90mm and see how you like it.
There are plenty around, so they're not too expensive. Superwides can get expensive.

Re: dirty film / filtering liquids

I've also found that my stereo equipment sounds better with $1500.00 gold-plated liquid nitrogen-encased cables between my receiver and speakers... defintely made my Air Supply albums sound better.

    Re: Building a 4x5

A larger lensboard size would allow use of larger (longer and/or faster) lenses. Vintage 12" (~300mm) f4.5 lenses can get big & heavy...like a Gundlach Radar, or a Wollensak Velostigmat.
    It would...
  17. Re: Getting the correct lens settings for a synced strobe?

You can get a good, used flash meter for less than the price of a box of 50 sheets of 8x10 Tri-X.

  18. Re: Getting the correct lens settings for a synced strobe?

  23. Re: "Extra" Aperture on Some Shutters (Copal/Schneider Symmar 135mm convertible)

    I just sold a Wollensak 90mm f12.5 wideangle lens...it was actually an f6.8 lens.

    That is quite mysterious.
There is no mention of Wollensak engraved on the trim ring.
