Re: Paths to Super Clean Sheet Film?

Endust makes an anti-static cleaning spray for computer monitors, etc. I spray all the scanner glass surfaces and wipe down before each scanning session. It seems to help.

Re: Epson V700 High Resolution lens

So far as I understand, and from my one test, yes. I scan a 4x5 negative in transparency mode with the 8x10 mask and the scan is high resolution and fully covers the negative. If I scan an 8x10...

Re: Epson V700 High Resolution lens

Again, according to Ed Hamrick, in Vuescan the higher resolution lens is activated by selecting “transparency” in the input section. The lower resolution lens is selected by picking 8x10...
  6. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

Peter, I use the Carestream green and it seems pretty slow. I use BTZS, so I’m not sure how to translate it to an iso.
  7. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

I use hangers in the traditional way and Pyrocat. I very rarely get scratches. That makes me think the scratching comes when the film is wet, not when it is dry.

Re: Epson V700 High Resolution lens

Just to round out this thread - the lens choice is controlled by the vuescan software. To select the high resolution lens select input mode "transparency." To select the low resolution lens select...

    Re: UV bulb in enlarger?

The photographer’s exposure to the light is an important consideration. I set a timer for all of my UV work and leave the darkroom during the exposure.

    Re: UV bulb in enlarger?

I tried it once with a CFL bulb in my Beseler 45MX enlarger. I only exposed for an hour and got a bit of an image on albumen. It does seem it would work with time.

    Re: Ansco 130 - 1:1 or 1:2?

I also found I could make small contrast changes with 130 by varying the amount of time agitating.
  13. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

Now I’m using tanks and nitrogen burst, but previously tanks and raising and lowering the hangers.
  14. Re: Use of X-ray film: technical discussion with example images

I’ve tamed contrast by reducing agitation.

  18. Re: Epson V850 work-around for scanning 5x7 negatives.

12-15 years ago a user here came up with the solution. Buy two sheets of anti-glare picture frame glass cut to the scanner glass size. Put down the Edson 8x10 mask and put one glass on top, etched...
  19. Re: Adobe is going to only sell subscription based Photoshop

I use C1 with both a Nikon D300s and a D750. Peter is correct that C1 and Photoshop are not interchangeable. It depends on what you need.
I believe Corel offers a Linux version of PaintShop pro.
  20. Re: Adobe is going to only sell subscription based Photoshop

I switched to Capture One and haven’t looked back. They have both a purchase and subscription model.

Re: how to store exposed 4x5 sheet film

I always take empty film boxes and mark them as to development. I put the exposed sheets into the appropriate box - for instance a negative for normal development goes into the “N” or SBR7 box.

I use a grease pencil/china marker to write the film type on the dark slide itself. It wipes off with one of those Mr. Clean dry sponge doohickeys.

    Re: EBay Sales Tax????

  35. Re: Newb question: Store film holders with dark slides in...or out?

Another reason to keep them in, particularly if you have an assortment of old ones as I do, is that the slides are not uniform. They generally fit better in some holders than others. And in 4x5, the...

    Re: Headache from Fixer Fumes?
