I usually use "popping" Velvia 50 but I like your peaceful approach using Portra.

    Re: Reveni spot meter

I think I understand. I'm not familiar with the Reveni, but can you select aperture or shutter priority mode? If so, use the Aperture mode to take a reading set for f22. You'll get a shutter read...

    Re: Large Format Landscapes

Steve, That's a very dramatic shot. I think there's too much foreground that doesn't add to the picture. The water area is the subject. You can crop off 1/3 of the picture from the bottom and not...

    Re: Polarisation Filter

I was wondering whether this sample picture and recommendation for checking shutter speeds with Audacity should be placed in a permanent section of the forum for others to reference?

    Re: Polarisation Filter

I use my cellphone to check shutter speeds. I just record the sound and measure the signal using Audacity, a free app. https://www.audacityteam.org/

Here's what the signals look like on a 90mm...

I've cut and used polyfoam piping insulation for my cold metal clad tripod. Cut a short piece just for the top section. Tape it close with duct tape.

I carry an Olympus E-PL1 micro 4/3 which I use for metering, framing, visualization, etc. It's about the same size as my Minolta IIIF Autometer, which I also keep in the camera case.

So how do you meter with a polarizer like B+W that recommends adjustments from 1 to 1 1/2 stops?

  19. Re: Epson v800 8x10 transparency vertical banding

I'm curious. If the 1-3% of banding occurs normally with this scanner, where else might we see this problem on normal shots?

    Re: Polarisation Filter

Don't assume you need to turn the polarizer to full impact, Because a car has a lot of bends and turns, the polarizing effect will shift and change the way it works on the various surfaces of the...
  21. Re: Going to Yosemite but can't take my 4x5 or 8x10. What to do?

  23. Re: New to LF - Chamonix or used Wista SP outfit?

I bought a new 45H-1 from Chamonix. I'm retired and decided to try large format as I usually shoot my RB67 medium format system. I don't hike much but wanted something small in any case. The H1...

    Re: Wide Lenses for 4x5 & 8x10: 90mm to 165mm

Thanks for the input. My current cheap solution if I need a 105mm filter for my 90mm with center filter is to switch to my 75mm lens that only needs one of my 77mm filters with my step-up adapter...

    Re: Wide Lenses for 4x5 & 8x10: 90mm to 165mm

I'm in a similar situation with my 90mm Nikkor f/4.5 lens. It has a Schneider CF that takes 105mm filters in the front. All my other lenses (75, 150 and 300) take my 77mm filters with step-up...

    Re: High Lights scanning problem

I pretty much follow the same procedures as Lee using Epsonscan 64 bit Windows 10 scanning on my V600 and currently my V850. I scan at 2400bpi, 16 bit color or 16 bit gray scale, adjust the histogram...
  28. Re: Epson v800 8x10 transparency vertical banding

Try 2400. 300 is too low. That could be causing the banding.

    Re: High Lights scanning problem

Either you clipped the highlights in the original negative, or there's a problem with SF. (I have never used SF). Have you tried Epsonscan on manual, flat scan with the histogram set at 0 and 255?
