The Ilford wash... very economical on water. I applaud their conservation goals but I can’t bring myself to use that technique. I was 20 minute duration with about 10 changes of water.

Good decision. You won’t regret it.
Well, you’ve already tried the two I was going to suggest. I’m assuming that the ones you tried aren’t to your liking. Can’t wait to hear what’s next for you. Xenar... should be another good choice...
... and for a third time!
They love to be scrupulously clean and properly lubricated.
I’m looking forward to any answer that might be out there. Times just changed significantly with the loss of QLM and Paramount.
Doesn’t candle wax attract and hold dust and grit? I’d clean with a mild solvent and leave the metal bare before using either grease or candle wax.
FinishLine dry Teflon lubricant. Liquid when applied that very quickly turns into a dry film that lubricates without attracting dust or dirt. There probably are other brand names for the same/similar...
You probably don’t technically need a “repair”. Sounds like it needs an overhaul, or what some call “CLA” - clean, lubricate and adjust. That shutter will run like a Swiss watch once it is...
That was the most interesting part of the article... and it is good news.

Seriously... you guys are going to re-litigate a really minor and already resolved concern? I’m more worried about the tattle-tail issue. LOL
I sent all of my film out to a lab until a couple of years ago. It’s convenient but expensive. Now I only send color film to a lab. Developing B&W film is actually easy. There is an initial...

Sad news. Hopefully George is well and planning on a fun retirement.
Not sure if this is an option or not, but the home canning business (Ball jars is the one I use) has water-soluble labels. They stick to the glass jars, last a long time as long as they are dry, and...
Art and craft stores sell squares of foam that can be used effectively for light seals. One brand name is “Foamies”. Not sure where on planet Earth you are located but if in US check out your local...

Compur shutters really need to be lubricated per spec... otherwise they run terrible, if at all. Especially the smaller sizes.
LOL. Mirrors indeed lie. I look into them and have no idea who that old man is that looks back. I don’t feel nearly as old as that lying mirror and lying driver’s license says I am!
... and with regards to non-portrait soft focus... I like pictorialism.
I took a beautiful pic of my beloved wife recently. Used a Softar1. She wants me to use a Softar2 in the future. LOL.
I have no idea what she sees when she looks at me but I’m eligible for a...
In some circles there is little to discuss. Ask any woman, and most men, over 50 who have had their portrait taken.
Adam... don’t bother changing. Stick with what you have unless you are absolutely convinced it isn’t giving you the result you want.
Just use the ring or flange that came with the shutter. The size difference is negligible.
Have you talked to Steve Choi? Steve’s Camera Repair.
That overhaul should not be a challenge for any reasonably competent camera repair shop unless something is broken.
Self-promotion is difficult and others sometimes mistake it for something it isn’t. But it’s important to getting ahead (or keeping even) in many life pursuits. I’ve always been proud of professional...
The storefront on Hollywood Blvd indeed closed up a while back. It was a great store.

LOL... who knows who has more money... nothing I care to compare. :)
The secret is being frugal and having a well-curated small assortment of cameras and lenses.
lol... am I the only one who just bought multiple lenses and use dedicated boards?
Please refrain from political commentary. Thank you.
LOL... more lenses will likely lead to more missed shots.
+2... I had Paramount make a bi-post to Vivitar cord. Fewer interfaces increases reliability.
Note: Some “flashes” may have a proprietary connector rather than the standard PC. Make sure both the flash and cable are compatible. Paramount can build virtually anything you need.
Alcohol or ammonia-based window cleaner, followed up with scrupulously clean microfiber cloth.
Not a Gitzo head, but I recently overhauled a Bogen/Manfrotto 3047 with similar symptoms. It was a 30 minute project and the head was good-as-new after a good cleaning, re-grease with damping grease,...
I do similar to Alan but not full inversion. Rock “slowly” narrow-side to left until near sideways, return to upright, continued to right until near sideways, return to center. Repeat a second time....
