I built an exposure unit. It works well but the sun is still the best especially for pt/pd. Good luck!

There is a possibility of some residual rinse aid in the drum that caused the foaming. Sometimes a little photoflo hangs around and a tiny amount can make a lot of bubbles.

It was years ago but I had some weird kind of crystal-shaped spots on some film. I sent it to Kodak and it turned out to be from the fixer. So I agree it would likely be from the wet side.
