Razor blade or Xacto knife on the plastic side, slicing between the residue and the hard plastic. On the bellows, if anything maybe a delicate scraping with the blade. I can't tell from the photos...
Barge contact cement is what I’ve used to glue bellows to frames.
Somewhere I have a photo of my Gitzo Giant with the extra 5’ telescoping column set up to shoot a new high school. It was during a football game and I was positioned behind the goal post. Right next...
I have a Toyo 45A(R) that I hike with for landscape and low-movement architectural photos (no overnight backpacking). I like the simplicity and sturdiness of it, using 65mm-210mm lenses. If I had...
There are architects who "buy" jobs (severely underbid and operate at a loss to get a signature project or block competitors). Maybe they're the ones who expect to be paid to photograph their work.
I prefer it when the architect pays me to photograph the building. Maybe I'm just not "Fine Art" enough.
My second year at a state university, in-state tuition doubled. By the time I was done, it had tripled again, to a total of 6X my first year. The initial jump was due to a state measure that cut...

Another issue with the Toyo holder and some cameras: ...
It’s a Horseman 6x12 back, but it’s just like the 6x7 & 6x9 versions. I like them better than the Toyos, even though you have to take off the ground glass. From memory, I think the Toyo bends the...
Here you go - shown on camera w/ 25mm rear fall, 12mm shift. Since my camera only has 35mm shift in any direction, I just left out the stiffeners for the first couple of pleat rows to give enough...
I made it myself, sized for my application. I'm traveling at the moment, so don't have a photo of it at hand.
With 35mm, 12mm shift gets you halfway across the short dimension of the sensor (film). Proportionately, 25mm would be plenty of shift for MF, while 50mm would be needed for 4x5.
I have an Arca...
Don’t let availability of bellows in a particular size combination turn you off Arca, if it turns out that’s what’s most suited to you. Bellows are available from other parties as noted above. Frames...
I suggest not wasting money on bargain/knockoff geared heads for 4x5. Get a solid classic like the Gitzo Drew mentioned, or a Sinar pan-tilt head.
Regarding geared vs non-geared movements, and Orbix:
For rise/fall/shift movements I have my eye farther back, looking at the whole composition. Focus doesn't change with these movements, so I...
Happy Thanksgiving everyone, no matter how clinical or aberration-ridden your lenses are.
Arca Swiss M-2 has geared front swing and tilt. It's slightly heavier & bulkier than an F-line, but less than fully-geared monorails like Sinar P/2, etc. It does this by limiting movements to...
Yes, the ability to leave the bench home/in the car is a neat trick for saving pack weight.

The Cube is great - well-designed and executed. The things I like most about it are the gear...
I had the same initial reaction to the 2-step clamp, and changed it out for different ones. It's offset shape and steps come in handy in certain situations though, so I changed back.

Sounds like an Arca "Monoball Fix" clamp. Check if it fits the upper extension rails of your camera.
I think it's an option to buy their heads with the Monoball Fix clamp or the standard Arca...
Why bother with all that Manfrotto hex nonsense, or even consider adding a Linhof quick release? The rail of your Arca Swiss camera fits perfectly into the default clamp of your, wait for it... Arca...
Thanks Peter. Always playing with the color palette, still don't feel like I've nailed it.

I did the same thing to attach a Sinar 4x5 back to my Arca M2. (Dovetail plate marked with arrow.) Since the rise/shift is on the function carrier, that movement is preserved. The same could be...
Don’t commercial SLRs use front-surface mirrors? I’ll be interested to hear how this works.

Very nice Ari - I love the flowing leaves in that corn arch!
I think I remember you talking about using the Artist’s Viewfinder App, and I understand you’re not really looking for focal length advice. I’ve used it as a visual to weigh a lens’ position in my...
Yeah! And what's with this black & white nonsense that doesn't look at all like real life?! Sheesh - get it together people!
Back on topic...
I've had a Toyo 45A for 25 years or so. I like...
My seat of the pants decision was to spring for the APO Sironar S at the shorter 135mm focal length, as I use it closer to the edge of it's image circle (4x5). At 210mm, I'm using the N and have...
Have you found any deficiencies with the Nikon lens?
Thanks Jon!

Arguments about practicality, cost, PR, etc. aside... rear focussing in this case serves a purpose. He's relatively close to the subject, so any fore-aft movement of the lens will result in...
Well, it has vented grilles at the front and rear rail covers!
I love all the layers and subtle color in this one!

Hmm, one way to "see what is available" as recommended, is to look at what other photographers are using.
Why not choose an existing small lensboard standard (Arca, Toyo field, Linhof)? Why reinvent something that is readily and inexpensively available?
