Re: Building a 7x5 camera from scratch

Glad you guys like things so far. The secret of crisp and regular bellows is in the rib spacing and accuracy - as I say in the video, if you get this right the bellows virtually fold themselves....

Building a 7x5 camera from scratch

A few of you may have seen my thread about bringing back my European 13x18cm travel camera to full working order. I got the old lady for £60 on ebay - and had a great time both making a 5x7 spring...

Re: Restoring a tailboard e bay find

Thanks @Tin Can. It's proved such a fascinating project - and I've fallen so heavily for 7x5 that I now am accumulating the materials to make a camera in that format from scratch - though this one...

Re: Restoring a tailboard e bay find

Well putting film through the old girl was a fair old distraction in itself, along with finding a method to develop 5x7 and indeed scan the resulting negatives successfully. This was my first 5x7...

    Re: Lens board adapters thread

This is exactly what I've done with my 13x18 travel camera ... built an adaptor to take my MPP lens boards

Re: Restoring a tailboard e bay find

Well with the back made ... I turned my attentions to the lens slide/board and built an adaptor board to take my MPP lens boards so I can swap my compatible Fujinon lenses easily.
    This was a trial...

Re: Restoring a tailboard e bay find

It's ironic then that my reisekamera is currently nestling on my shelves next to my upstart 1938 Leica IIIb ... and at the moment getting more pampering.

Re: Restoring a tailboard e bay find

    Interesting points ...
The door and ground glass (I'll be making a new ground glass screen specifically) will go back on the camera ... as I designed the spring back to allow a dual mode of...

Re: Restoring a tailboard e bay find

The back is made and working smoothly ... I'm going to post a YouTube video showing how I built it. The springs are glass fibre - well if it's good enough for competition archery bows ...

Re: Restoring a tailboard e bay find

it's then ironic  as I think the reasonable price was due to the camera being advertised as a 'bellows' not a camera!

Re: Restoring a tailboard e bay find

Today I spent some workshop time and got a home brewed spring back functioning - if not pretty yet. Pics to follow.
Found an old advert online for the company who made the shutter in the above pic -...

Restoring a tailboard e bay find

Took a chance on this old tailboard 13x18cm 'travel camera' on e bay a few weeks ago ... getting it for a silly cheap £60.00

The bellows are in perfect condition so I decided to make a...
