No problem Randy, that sounds like a good idea to get two sizes out of one plate.
Cheers
Steve
Hi Randy,
Thanks a lot for your feedback, I’m really glad you like your new holder. I’ve just looked at your result in the other thread, that’s fantastic, especially for such old plates!
It’s a...
Apologies, that is a typo so thanks for spotting it. The size currently shown is the area that will be exposed.
Thanks for your patience, and your order. I've got a case open with my ISP to upgrade the backend of my hosting which should resolve the performance issues.
I wanted to post a quick update to say that I’ve now added new wet plate holders to my shop. Currently, I have listed a range of standard sized holders, but am more than happy to discuss any custom...
I’m currently developing an accessory kit that will allow you to convert my 4x5 Chroma Carbon Adventurer into a 5x7 Camera whenever you wish. The accessory kit contains a swap out rear body/film...
No problem Neil. Give me a shout if you have any questions.
Cheers
Thanks Howard, I appreciate that. I’d like to think there’s enough space in the market for something new, alongside the wealth of existing options.
Cheers
Steve
Thanks a lot for the review Neil, and your honest feedback. I really appreciate it.
As you said, the design of the camera has changed along the way from the first crowd funded version, mainly due...
Thanks Alan. Yes, the holders will be available for sale through both of our websites, plus we're also working with other retail outlets at the moment to finalise them being sold through their sites...
Thanks a lot Matt. I saw that we'd reached the goal as we were eating dinner earlier and nearly threw my plate of food over the kids ;0) Myself and Jason are looking forward to bringing something...
We're now at just under 80% so it's starting to get really close! Thanks again for everyone's ongoing support.
Cheers
Steve
Hi all, sorry for being slow to the thread but I’ve been a bit spread thinly with Chroma camera building and being harassed by a guy from New Hampshire to design some holders ;)
Looks like Jason’s...
Congratulations on reaching your funding target Drew. Now the fun part really begins!
Cheers :D
Good luck with the campaign Drew, it looks like another excellent introduction to large format. I collected 8 boxes of Chroma camera parts yesterday so will be continuing with the assembly line...
He designed and built the camera, along with the other Stenopeika cameras, so I imagine he's had quite a lot of practice with its' use :0)
I haven't used carbon fibre sheet but I build my Chroma's from 2/3/5mm laminated acrylic (Perspex) and they are both strong and comparatively light (1500g).

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't have dry dusty conditions to test my Chroma in unfortunately but from using the camera indoors and having it inside bags etc I haven't noticed an excessive amount...
I'm not an expert on static electricity or its' effects on film so if you have experience of it, and working around it, I'd be more than happy to discuss it.
Hi everyone, apologies for my delayed response here. I'm the designer of the Chroma Camera and am about to start the production of 148 cameras that will be shipped worldwide.
Firstly, my main...
Thanks a lot. I agree that the resurgence in the interest in film is great. Whilst it's never 'died', it has dropped in visibility so the recent surge in new cameras is definitely a good thing to...
Thanks a lot Neil. Purple is awesome ;0)
I laser cut the ribs and outer material then assemble the bellows myself.
I’m glad you like the purple, I do too :)
Whilst I haven’t formally documented any kind of warranty, the Chroma is designed to use laminated parts bolted together rather than bonding with...
Thanks David. My camera shelf also suggests I don’t need any more but if I build it myself I don’t think it counts ;0)
I wanted to design a camera that I want to pick up and use. I’ve had...
Thanks a lot for your positivity Corran. As I’ve said, I never set out to replace a more ‘traditional’ camera from the likes of a Chamonix/Ebony/Wista. They are clearly aimed a different market and...
Thanks a lot for your comment, I appreciate your platitude regarding my attempts to build a camera. All of the issues you've flagged with Acrylic sheet have already been identified and addressed. ...
I haven’t seen any signs of static build up in my own use and am not really sure in what conditions it would be?
With regards to sub zero temperatures, acrylic is rated for use down to -20 (and-40...
Thanks. As I said though, the availability of polycarbonate in 2/3/5mm thick sheets and multiple colours is limited. Whilst there are finished products like the suitcases you mentioned, the most...
Thanks for the advice but the only information I’ve found regarding water absorption is on aquatic forums where acrylic has been used fully submerged in tank sumps 24x7. The manufacturer stats...
I forgot to add. Whilst your Chamonix is a very nicely made camera, it uses a traditional type front standard without independent controls and has no rear rise/fall. I’m not suggesting my Chroma is...
Hi, I've just found this thread. The Chroma is mine :)
Thanks for the interest and feedback. just to answer a few of the questions;
The purple versions, like the blue one, have been built as...
You're just a rebel Dirk!
My Chroma camera is almost ready for its' Kickstarter launch. I'm shooting the video for it on the 28th then will be starting the campaign a few weeks after that.

It's been a while since I updated my progress but I ran a dry assembly of my Chroma to check the alignment/fit;

Out of interest, how would having the lux meter behind the lens account for shutter speed? I understand you could set the desired aperture then open the shutter on bulb to get a lux reading but...
Thanks for advice Pere, that's very useful information. With my 5x4, I've redesigned the hinge mechanism since building the first version to remove the need for the 3D printed hinge due to the added...
Thanks Pere. I'm excited about it to :0) I'm making a few final adjustments to the overall design to make the camera easier to setup and also to simplify the manufacturing process. Once I'm happy...
Thanks. I'll take some more photos once I've built an updated version I'm finishing up now. To give an idea of size, the rear standard is 208mmx208mm and the whole camera, once folded down, will be...
Sorry, I wasn't getting notifications from this thread. I chose acrylic because it is widely available in many colours and can be cut by the laser cutters used by a local firm. As all of the parts...
