Good morning all,
I thought it was appropriate to re-introduce myself before jumping back into the forum.
Been shooting LF for over 10 years now but I haven't really shot anything for the last...
It'd been the best of a year since the Deardorff had an outing so I took it Lincoln cathedral between Christmas and New Year. After setting up the camera I realised that my spot meter was elsewhere...
Robert,
in my experience you will find all manner of interesting faces in Istanbul.
Depending on what you want you could look at the following areas: Tarlabasi, Balat, Fener, Eyup, The Bazaar...
No tramlines this time - which is progress. There is something I like about this photo and something that frustrates me - but I can neither pinpoint nor articulate what it is. Anyway I shall try...
One from the weekend - will need reshooting as the negative picked up a couple of tramline scrapes from somewhere - such is life!

Thanks for the comments. I intend to go back this weekend and try some other vantage points around the power station. I hope the weather plays ball and gives some good lighting.
As I said above, I was a little disappointed with the image but this one I'm much more happy with.

Bit disappointed with this one to be honest - seems to lack a certain pop.

Hey Taylan,
I was living in Istanbul near Istinye / Resitpasa but moved back to the uk at the end of last year. A shame as I loved living there, travelling around the country and meyhane cuisine!...
Merhaba Taylan. Hos Geldininz.
Will you be using this camera around Istanbul?
Tim
Dober Dan Bracan,
I lived in Belgrade a while ago and I know that going large format there is no simple task - I was able to get 4x5 Efke PL100 film but I would have been stuck going to 8x10...

Hi All,
Just wanted to share my experience of a weekends workshop learning Wet Plate Collodion with John Brewer here in the UK.

This is one I took last month but "lost" the holder. Found and developed today. Not in the class of...
I managed to get a free couple of hours last weekend and here is the best contact print I was able to make of the Fairy Chimneys.
Printed on Ilford Multgrade paper.
The dodging was a wee bit...
Hi Ken, you are right. One of my limiting factors is that as I'm travelling around Turkey I'm with my family so getting out on my own at any time is a little difficult. Of course that's also partly...
Perhaps I should add a little info on the images.
The mosque and arches shot is Selimye Mosque - perhaps the most impressive mosque in the country,
The fortress / landscapeshot is Assos in...
And a few more.
...I thought I'd share some on here.
This is a mix of 4x5 and 8x10 from a few sites around Turkey.
All comments gratefully received.

Hi Steven,
the glass has almost no colour at all.
As the silver colour, I think that's a white balance effect. The lens is deffo brass with no coating.
Here's a photo of the lens with hood and cap. Also, a photo of the plate that holds the rachet in place - now the number 8 there maybe purely co-incidental but it's not scratched into the brass,...
Interesting comments guys, thanks. I should add that the front thread is for a hood which I have but didn't include in the photo. I also have the brass cap for the hood.
I did wonder given the...
So, over Christmas whilst back in the UK, I was 'persuaded' to go around an antique centre. Whilst mulching around I came across a brass lens marked as Magic Lantern. One look showed that whilst a...
Ah, it's probably time to point out that I'm living in Istanbul so transport involves me pulling my finger out and driving over and picking this thing up. Something tells me that the guys might not...
Fairy Chimneys.
Bizarre rock formations with the homes / churches of medieval Christians often found within.

Recently I moved up to 8x10 with a Deardorff V8 bought from these boards.
After an age to get film shipped to Istanbul and getting over processing issues with the Orbital processor (thanks to the...
Thanks for the comments - it's been on my mind all day and I think I'll go for it.
Ian, the shop is between Taksim and Tophane.
I'm also keen to try the lens on the speed graphic and see what...
Yesterday I was mooching around some antique shops in Istanbul and at the back of one found 2 old studio cameras. The one that took my eye was clearly the older of the two, complete with stand.
