Very nice results, Aidan. Reminds me of a favorite “junk lens” I often use, a 5x7 Gundlach Radar.
Post #1: "I really love the look of 180mm lenses with the 4x5. But, frankly, I am a bit lost as to which to pick. I would love any recommendations, specifically in regards to portrait work."

Whatever lens you get, check that there are soft focus filters (softar, soft/fx, or the like) available in that size. For a lot of portraiture, you'll want something to cut the sharpness.
You slay me; you really do!
It is… if it’s big enough.
I must no be very proficient at reading between the lines or predicting the future. Those are two of my talents, everywhere but on foto phourumns. LOL
My Magic-8 ball says, “You’re probably correct.”
But there was nothing political in that link… just valid statistics pertinent to the topic of heat- related dangers. Not much at all about global warming. In this case it seems more of an...
Somewhere in my garage I have a rivet press and a jillion hollow brass rivets that would be perfect to replicate a door… somewhere in my garage. I was going to make a spare for myself out of highly...
I'd have to look at mine to see if it looks like brass or not; I don't think I ever thought about it. But I did think about making a spare door. What about a spring steel, like this?

Thanks for the report, John... that's encouraging news! I'm a bit surprised to hear that the "white ones" aren't in a metal case. That is not a satisfactory design, IMO. Fitting tight, as you...
I love VT but don’t ignore autumn in the Adirondacks of New York, Saratoga Springs to the Canadian border and west to Gouverneur and Ft Drum.
Which film?
Go now and take stuff while he’s still here to see you enjoy it.
I haven’t talked to them in a couple of years and you might want to call them. Steve’s Camera Repair in Culver City, CA did great work for me in the past.
Any decent camera repair shop should be able to do the work for you if they are still willing to service mechanical shutters. A routine leaf shutter service is a rather basic skill to a camera tech.
That, and the other like it, appear to meet the interchangeability spec. There really aren’t sensitive electronics to fry; it’s a rather basic electrical circuit. I’m always more worried about that...
One of my favorites is in Weston. lol
And one of my favorite lens/shutter is in US stop.
Normal for that brand of shutter, and many other shutters in all formats.
Travel photography used to be fun too… in the good old days.
About +2/3 stop
A potential option would be to use a slip-on series filter adapter.

Kodak didn’t offer examples either.
I just use slower film to avoid the entire controversy.
I haven't yet used it on a Graflex SLR, only on a Speed Graphic. As mentioned earlier, the tall hood of the RB might be a problem. The loupe needs to be against the GG. That, in practice, might make...

Interesting. A rather complicated table, though. If I read it correctly, Stroebel is generally consistent with Kodak except Stroebel works in units of 1/4 second and Kodak in units of 1/3 second.
...
I think the Fair Use Clause permits limited reproduction for academic purposes, which this probably is because nobody is seeking profit from Stroebel’s work, but I respect your position.

Ain't that the truth!
But in terms of terminology, I've never heard the term "shutter inefficiency" and always heard it as "shutter efficiency". Not picking on you, Michael (and not really...
Shutter efficiency is an important consideration when using flash bulbs. I’ve never in my life heard it’s a significant consideration for normal daylight photography no matter what aperture is being...
That sounds like a really worthwhile project, although I'd think about buying a view camera and using it in his honor rather than building one. But that's just me... building might take more time. ...
LOL… I know what John means but “drag”, if I’m not mistaken, is a digital camera term; As a predominantly film photographer I still don’t exactly understand it. Using slower shutter speed I...
This discussion of shades/hoods thrills me. It happens so seldom. For my first few years of MF and LF photography I shot without them but for the past 45 years I always use one. Sometimes it seems...
Will you be able to show us images taken with this lens before and after the blacking replacement?
