Re: Vitamin C developer for paper

This is so weird and awesome. I never would have imagined the paper itself would have a developing agent in it. Has anyone tried it with ilford papers? That's what I use, and I'm thinking I may have...

Re: Can this lens be salvaged?

thanks for the advice guys. I went ahead with a return, and got my money back. However, the seller didn't want to deal with the hassle of getting it shipped across the atlantic again, so I still have...

    Can this lens be salvaged?

    Hey people,

I recently purchased this rodagon 300mm lens for my DeVere 5108 enlarger off eBay. It was advertised as "clean and clear" but has fungus all over it and some scratches. I of course...

    Re: Cordless telephone for darkroom

If you have an iphone, you can use the color filters feature to set the iphone to only output red light. This is done by going into settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Color Filters. You...

Re: Wet Plate image sharing, August 2020

I'm using a mixture of ferrous sulfate, acetic acid, and grain alcohol, in distilled water. I think its 100ml water, to 4g ferrous sulfate, 4ml grain alcohol, and 6ml acetic acid.

what developer are you using? my developer has a very low viscosity and never has any issues covering the whole plate.
  8. Re: Looking for a count up timer for use with film development

iPhone can be set to only output red light, but would that be too much light for working with film?

Re: Wet Plate image sharing, August 2020

Here's a shot of the street in front of my house I captured a few days ago. Probably my best plate so far, as far as the technical aspects go, though the composition isn't my favorite.

    Re: Devere 504 timer advice

I don’t think you’ll need to worry about the relays in your timer. When I made my cable (though mine is a 5108, I think they are the same) I took apart the control box which comes with the enlarger,...

    Re: Devere 504 timer advice

The DeVere timer plug isn’t actually proprietary, it’s a Bulgin PX0551 plug, which you should be able to get at one of the larger online electronics suppliers. I sourced one from mouser and made my...
  13. Re: De Vere 5108, negative carrier and timer questions

It’s a 25 watt T8 appliance bulb with a BA15d base. Make sure to buy one with the right base, as most T8s have a screw base, but it needs the bayonet style base to fit into the DeVere.
  14. Re: De Vere 5108, negative carrier and timer questions

Yup, I was able to grab one at the local hardware store. The 5108s method of using fiber optics to send the light to the panel seems a bit overly complicated to me, but it works well enough I guess.
  15. Re: De Vere 5108, negative carrier and timer questions

Cool, all 4 lamps in the head turn on, it’s just the dial ones that don’t. Annoyingly, one of the 4 indicator LEDs must be bad, because although it doesn’t light up, I’ve verified that all the lamps...
  16. Re: De Vere 5108, negative carrier and timer questions

I think I’ll order one, just to be on the safe side.

On another note, the manual indicates that the small switch on the front of the head is supposed to turn on lights behind the dials, but it...
  17. Re: De Vere 5108, negative carrier and timer questions

Thanks! That’s what the one looks like. Looking inside the other, it seems it has been modified, I’m guessing for whatever voltage stabilizer the previous owner had. Do you use a voltage...
  18. Re: De Vere 5108, negative carrier and timer questions

Ok, maybe another question. FedEx finally delivered the last two boxes of enlarger bits, and there were two power supplies. Both say de Vere 115v control on the front, but one has a...

Re: Converting a Pressman into a 4x5 enlarger

If you want to DIY an enlarger, elgatosuizo posted a guide in this sub forum recently on how it can be done for ~$100. 4x5 enlargers aren’t super rare either though, so if you don’t want to do DIY...
  20. Re: Small white streaks on plates, what's the cause?

how long do you let a plate sit before putting it in the silver? I haven't been very careful about that, so that could be my issue.

  24. Re: De Vere 5108, negative carrier and timer questions

Cloudy silver bath, is it usable?

    Hey guys,

I just mixed my wet plate chemicals today, and I'm somewhat impatient to go try and take some photos.

I was given a silver tank by a fellow wet plate photographer, which was about...
  32. Re: Hi everyone. Nice to meet you all. I have a few questions.

  33. Re: Scratch on negative, how to remove defect from print?

For pencil on the print (I'm wary to try anything that goes on the negatives, damaged prints can be re made, damaged negatives can't), do you just get a white pencil and go over the mark a few times?
  34. Scratch on negative, how to remove defect from print?

  35. Re: Hi everyone. Nice to meet you all. I have a few questions.

  36. Re: Carl Zeiss Perimetar and its huge flat Ziggurat rear glass blocks

Re: The Setup and the Shot

I think I probably agree, but the second one has some details like the signs on the hill behind the waterfall, which I think will be intriguing when I make some bigger enlargements of it.
  38. Re: De Vere 5108, negative carrier and timer questions

I could get it and change the connectors, but if I’m already messing around with it, why not just get the 8 pin plug from Mouser and make the adapter myself?
  39. Re: De Vere 5108, negative carrier and timer questions

I only see the one for RH Designs timers, not for standard US three prong timers, do they have that as well?
  40. Re: De Vere 5108, negative carrier and timer questions

KHB didn’t list the 5108 carrier on their website, but I could call and ask I suppose. De Vere does make an adapter for normal timers, but it costs $175, and I can’t justify spending that on...
