    Holder may not be in the lock grove.
    Or when you put the dark slide back in you put it between the holder and the back.
    Or as Doremus said You put the holder way from the back when you pull it...

    The standard "t" measurement for a 12 x 20 , 8 x 20, 16 x 20, 20 x 24 is 0.355. You have to remember these cameras were made back in the 1920 to the 1940's and we here in the US used the inch system...

    That does not sound right. A 1/4 of an inch is a bit too mush.

    The unfinished wood is the ground glass frame and is not in the image area when the photo is taken.

    The ground glass frame could be off center by the amount of clearance that was given at the time...

    Leave it along. It is a very common problem with this type of base construction. You live in area of the country that see a lot of weather change from high humidity to low. This effects the wood.

    A lens board with a 3 inch extension will also work.

    But the best way to go is get a camera with longer rails and bellows. I use mine a lot with a 24 inch lens.

    The transformer generally goes before the bulb.

    Cold light do not have ballast.

    The values for the T measurement shown in post 9 are correct

    The label is wrong it should be "depth to septum" In the ANSI listing it is refereed to as the "T" measurement.

    The problem is the rear cross piece. You should see rub marks where it needed to be sanded down.

    The plate holder at 8 5/8 is of the standard size use by US camera makers.

    You could add a strip to each side to make the width of the holder to 9 inches.

    You want to use 10 inches as the min 10.25 inches is bette. the closer the size is to the film image size the more likely you will vignette the image when using movements

    In the past when I have repaired this part I would drill and tap two screws to hold the part in place. The way It was held in place was by peening over the back of the stud.
