I would not want to carry any big LF camera anymore, but hat's off to those that do. I carried my 5x7 and several light lenses (including an aluminum Karl Struss) last weekend a hundred yards or so...

    Re: CC Harrison lens

A couple of points here. CC Harrison never made a Rapid Rectilinear anyway.

Steve, ALL CC Harrisons I've ever had have been excellent quality. It's not a "crap shoot" unless someone has...
  5. Re: Night time wet plates, has anyone succeded?

Trying to do this is like putting a person in a round room and telling them there is a dollar in the corner.
  6. Re: Night time wet plates, has anyone succeded?

As said above, once a wetplate dries, it's not sensitive. I've never had one stay wet more than about 5 minutes after bringing it out of the silver bath. That is why there were almost no low light...

Re: Wet plate on Astronomy Picture of the Day

Wetplate was used for astronomy for many decades, even after film. But this part of the caption has me scratching my head, what are "modern chemicals?" "This modern version of a wet-plate collodion...

    Re: Found Photographs

I found some more photos this weekend, glass slides. Rolling mill, pouring off slag, NY, 1911. These remind me of Jim Galli.

Re: Please help! Ambrotypes are turning blue ...

First, there isn't a "dilution" with hypo, you buy crystals, and make it yourself with water. Second, when you say "do you think would work...?" I don't have to "imagine or guess" what might work,...

The plot thickens. You are using the two part hardening formula? That would be adding an unknown variable. I'd say try some tradition Hypo, Sodium Thiosulfate made from scratch.

    Re: Pictoriographica black glass!

Thanks for the link, so 5 plates in 4x5 are $15, which sounds reasonable. It is hard to find good glass, however none of us wetplaters "have been searching for it for years" as the seller states. ...

I don't know how you are stopping the development, but technique helps ensure you don't get "Prussian Blue" on your plates. It's not so much length of time, it's having some agitation or water flow...
