    Ammonium thiosulfate is easy to get in the U.S. I'm now using it 3:1 for all my b&w film, dry plate, wet plate fixer. Have a gallon jug sitting in my basement.

    I've switched from TF4 even though it works fine. I use ammonium thiosulfate (Ilford Rapid Fixer) now because it works for film, dry plate, wet plate.

    I don't see 8x10 b&w film being unavailable in my life time. But, it is expensive. I rarely shoot film in mine, mostly shoot wet plate. I shoot a lot more film in my 4x5 Chamonix.

    Just get a Stearman Press SP-810. You can easily load it in a tent, then everything else can be done on your kitchen counter or where ever. These are fool proof and you can do 4x5 and 8x10 in them...

    Are you looking at the f scale on a very old lens that doesn't show f11? If so, remember that is the old "U.S." scale, not the modern f scale. F16 is f16, but what says f8 is really f11 and so on....

    I own about a dozen, all from the 19th Century. About the only advantage I can think of is they are cheaper. I use them to shoot wet plate so lack of a shutter is not a big deal.

    That usually means either you didn't develop long enough or didn't rinse well enough after developing. I rinse mine until the water runs clear.
