  1. What small lightweight lens for 4x5 backpacking?

    Thereís this route...

  2. Re: What small lightweight lens for 4x5 backpacking?

I use individual holder sleeves of different colors to specify the film type very clearly visually. Some vendorsí are reversible with different colors inside/out.

    I think thatís better than...

    Re: Going Long on 5x7

Realistically for my taste the 720mm is a bit too prone to atmospheric effects impacting resolution in many conditions if used at infinity so I only use the 500mm. Also itís hard to get the stability...
  4. Re: What small lightweight lens for 4x5 backpacking?

If youíre only carrying 1 lens, almost any will do just fine and you wonít notice the weight difference.
In that focal range you can pick any in this list and it will do fine:

    Re: Shipping Container Camera

The first question that popped in my mind when seeing the video (which is cool) is, who is paying for this? Because nothing that happens in the video, from building, to the crane lift, to the public...

Re: Suggestions for LF field camera

I think the problem is that still life/macro and landscape are a bit at odds with each other. The first one wants a heavy stable monorail the second one a light wood foldable camera (other options...
  7. Re: Any telephoto (360mm or above) recommendations for a 4x5 (TK45S)?

I find the Fuji 400mm a very good lens, and being a tele your below extension for infinity would be 10.4Ē which means a pretty stable configuration in the open. Itís also quite cheap relatively...
  8. Re: Any telephoto (360mm or above) recommendations for a 4x5 (TK45S)?

I think the natural step would be to go to at least 400 or 450mm. I see no point in 360mm if you already have 300mm.

The Fuji T 400mm (relative cheap, not too heavy) or the Nikkor M 450mm (more...

I wouldnít choose either. Theyíre 1.5 Kg lenses.

    Re: Chamonix Whole Plate Camera!

I hope yíall realize ours is a race against time. The WP crew are just slightly ahead of the 8x10 folks, somewhat more so than the 4x5 folks, and about on par with the ULF folks. Ok maybe itís not...

    Re: Tripods in lightning storms?

Taking shots of lighting is something I will definitely use my 35mm gear for. Iíll bring the 200-500mm zoom and do it from a safer distance (nothing is 100% safe). They also sell you this trigger...

  17. Re: Excited and Stoked, 4x5 Black Edition Intrepid

Life is short indeed. Itís also a matter of wallet. The mistakes you may make that Iím talking about are not related to composition or execution. You may simply load the film incorrectly. Double...

  20. Re: Disastrous Consequences (solved: fog with Intrepid lensboard)

Sometimes we just read too fast. He wrote "Their aluminum prices are twice that for the same thickness in aluminum sheet, and around $15 /sq. ft. for aluminum plate."
    So he's comparing 3 items: FR4,...
  21. Disastrous Consequences (solved: fog with Intrepid lensboard)

Since you can at least get 4 boards from one square foot sheet, the cost difference is either $2.67 in FR4 or $5.35 in aluminum sheet or $3.75 for plate. None of that has a strong bearing on the...
  22. Re: Disastrous Consequences (solved: fog with Intrepid lensboard)

Go to eBay and buy a CNC aluminum lens board from Luland for like $13.99 free shipping.
No issues, and will last forever.
  23. Re: Disasterous Consequences

If you read the thread I posted youíll see theyíre aware and solved it by going from FR4 to Aluminum.

Iíve done my fair share of PCBs in my early days and know quite well FR4 is not light...

  30. Re: XTOL not mixing well and not working any more!

  31. Any telephoto (360mm or above) recommendations for a 4x5 (TK45S)?

Weíre not really comparing apples to apples here. The Fuji C is not a tele and will require that much in bellow extension. The Nikkor at 500 will require about 350mm bellow extension for infinity...
  32. Any telephoto (360mm or above) recommendations for a 4x5 (TK45S)?

Any experience with the tele Congoís? Thereís 300, 400, and 500mm that are usually quite economical. I wonder how theyíd compare to a tele Arton or a Fuji 400mm T in optical quality?
  33. Thinking out loud, why doesn't someone just 3d print a triple LF box?

Personally Iím not sure itíd be better than cardboard. It can be brittle and if it cracks everything inside is ruined. Cardboard can actually take a lot of abuse.
3D printed can also be sometimes...
