Something else worth mentioning that Kerry Thalmann observed in his comments on the topic. . . The Nikon 90mm f8 lens has eight elements, whereas other 90mm f8 or f6.7 SW's have six elements.

Good point. To be considered, but not an end-all, be-all. I've sold lenses because of their high contrast.
That said, I gathered that high contrast was an important consideration for Ansel Adams,...
I think this makes a difference when making focal length comparisons between different formats. But for me, it wouldn't make a difference when deciding on lens progressions.
Well, I'm back, and I thought about it. :)
For me, the multiplicative approach (above) works best. Every time I've increased the focal length by 1/3rd, I've "shaved" off close to 12.5% on each...
I use HP5+ with D76, and I seem to do OK with expansions that I use. But, there might well be a better combination.
As a comment, if one's extending contrast by increasing development time,...
Just a comment . . .
I used to have the 171mm front format frame on my Arca, and I liked the "wide angle" pleated, leather bellows, because they could handle wide angle optics, yet extend far...
What was his name?
In the old days before PayPal, I would only take a check for an item I was selling, if it was allowed to clear prior to shipping. Ditto any other type of payment: cashiers check, money order,...
I'm thinking that price depends on the following: Capability, Rarity, and Reputation/Perception.
Under capability comes, image circle, maximum aperture, focal length, and shutter. Generally...
Versus a zoom 24-70mm lens, all be it "macro", I would think that a 35mm, fixed focal length, macro lens would be preferable for DSLR scanning. A zoom lens is prone to chromatic aberration and...
What's a good source for an 8x10 ground glass. (It's for an 8x10 Burke and James.) Thx.
I think that this is more about the "design" of a Linhof Technika, versus whether or not the OP picked the "right" lensboard. The fact is, focusing a lens this short on a Linhof Technika is a pain...
My favorite definition . . .
"If it works, it's art."
:)
Welcome to the forum.
Although a wee bit on the heavy side, you have a very good camera system. If you don't already have one, you'll need a bag bellows . . . especially for architectural...
For the 90mm focal length, there's a pretty clear response . . . A 90mm Nikon f8 lens would be excellent. I have one of these. I photograph both landscape and exterior architecture, and this lens...
It's 50% more surface area on the negative. That's quite a bit.
I've considered going to 5x6.25, which is the largest 4x5 ratio one can pull from a 5x7 negative. But, I print small, so why...
Many excellent points made. I especially like Rod's comments on how contact printing can expand the number of stops that display detail, and his observation that, in viewing the ground glass, it's...
Multiple 8x10's I've had (and have) have been (are) prone to internal reflections. That was true with a 2D that I had, a Sinar, and now with my Oschwald era Arca Swiss.
I use a Lee compendium...
With what camera?
I'll soon be selling my Sinar outfit that I've enjoyed customizing and using. That will leave me with the only camera that I really need, an Arca Swiss kit that I've assembled over the years.

My wife and I are retired. While age makes us vulnerable to COVID, our retirement status and income has enabled us to STAY HOME! As a result, it's been a relatively productive year, both in...
Top to bottom using my calipers: 93.7mm.
But more likely, 93.5mm, given a dimension given in the green table for 300mm Rodagon-G lenses.
So even then, a -G wasn't necessary. Interesting.
I'm still wondering if there are uses for a lens like this in today's world? But, maybe not.
For a number of reasons, large format RF just does not make sense to me. Medium format RF can make sense, but not large format.
Woe, talk about days past.
Sounds like I have a relic. :)
(Wait a minute, I'm a relic.)
Thanks Bob for your reply.
How would a lens like this be used for billboards? Based on size, it makes sense. But, what would be the (simplified) process that makes use of a lens like this? Is...
Thanks for the graphs. Wow indeed!
It's funny . . . I print small and typically don't print larger than on 8x10 paper. (Maybe I'll start printing 80x100's.:) Trouble is, my darkroom is...
Oren, Thanks.
What is the optimum enlargement factor for a Rodenstock 300mm Rodagon-G f5.6 Multicoated enlarging lens? For example, what's the optimum print size using this lens to which I could enlarge an 8x10...
This all relates to a project that I'm just beginning. Please bear with me a bit, it's a little long winded.
Decades ago, probably the mid to late 90's, I purchased a "Photo Therm" device at a...
What's motivating your interest in photography? What are you after?
Actually, D76 is being provided by another supplier, but under the same name. Ditto Dektol.

Kirk, Sorry to hear about your health problems. Old age has a way of being fickle. Hopefully, you'll emerge from 2020 with all those problems having been temporary inconveniences.
I've made my own tanks to my specs. We have a local Tap Plastics store that cuts all the pieces to dimensions that I give them. I glue them together. Really works out well; I've made many helpful...
Does anyone know the coverage of a Nikon 450 Q, the single-coated version of the Nikon 450 M? If about the same, then this would be a budget conscious lens for 11x14. (Since a 450 M covers 11x14.)
Would a Dagor type G-Claron 355mm have any advantage over a Plasmat 355mm G-Claron? The latter is an outstanding lens.
Do the Dagor type G-Clarons exhibit focus shift, like some of the longer...
I have Lowell lights that I've used over the years: three DP Lights, and a couple of Tota Lights. Unlike other Lowell lights, DP's are versatile. They're quite adjustable in that one can adjust...
Boy, not me. I had an 8x10 and couldn't resist getting an 8x20 that was in very nice condition. That "addiction" lasted for one photograph.
My #1 LF anxiety, both when this thread began, and now . . .
Ilford going out of business.
It would be helpful to have a link to an example . . .
