studio space problems with soft boxes

My wife and I are moving into a new house and she has graciously said that I can have two rooms for my photography work - one for my darkroom and one for a studio. This will work great for me and am...

  4. Re: Any darkrooms in New England with 8x10 Enlargers?

I use my old Kodak 2D 8 x 10 as a horizontal enlarger off the edge of the counter and project onto the wall. I found a cold light head to use as the light source and the rest was easy.
  5. Re: Bromoil... what kind of paper and brushes

I strongly agree to look into Emil's techniques with liquid emulsion. Better yet, get one of his books. He is a master at this. Liquid emulsion and sponges are so much easier than brushes and...

    Re: help choosing portrait lens?

For my barrel lenses (mainly for the 8 x 10), I put together a packard shutter that I can slip on to the front of them when I want to use it. It gives me about 1/20 sec exposure time. A lot of my...

This all depends on what image look you are going after - sharp and higher contrast (from newer lenses) or the more "dreamy vintage" softer focus look (from typically older barrel type lenses). ...

Re: petzval like lens for my 8x10 Bernard

Most of my work is indoors but I was shooting some portrait work with Delta 100 a couple of weeks ago outdoors in subdued shade at about F6.5 with my packard shutter (about 1/25th sec) and the negs...

Re: petzval like lens for my 8x10 Bernard

I agree with this advice 100 percent. I do a lot of portrait type of work with old petzval lenses. In addition to Steve's advice, looking for an old magic lantern petzval lens is a very affordable...

So - I have one of these in the 180 MM version. I think it is a pretty early one. It doesn't say Dagor - it just says Dopple Anastigmat D. R. P. and serial #74437. At sometime in it's life,...

  27. Re: 7th Annual Large and Ultra Large Format Meet and Greet

Yes, this is half of a 1940's era Petzval projection lens used as a meniscus. I love this little meniscus lens for portrait type of work as it gives a lot of coverage and works great for 8 x 10 work.
