Thank you Paul; that would make the width and hight of its likely square front probably somewhere between 7 and 8 inches.....

Very nice lens and sliding box camera, William. Could you tell us about the dimensions of the camera, and does it have a makerslabel?

A real treasure - good find! Darlot made also comparable tiny achromat landscape lenses for stereo cams; also hard to find. (...and would be nice to build a camera for such a tiny lens)
A little update: still no matching flange found; however I found which diameter the flange should have to provide a decent fit. I tried a retaining ring from a Compur 1a shutter and it fitted nicely....
Much appreciated, since I would like to ascertain the sizes.
Would like to ascertain - for a project - what the size is of the front standard / panel of a Sinar P2 camera (8x10"), and the sizeof its bellows (for 8x10") at the side of the front standard /...
Many thanks Arri for your very kind offer. Since my question is just recently posted and we are now in the holiday season, I'll would just like to wait a little longer to give fellowmembers (who...
Recently I got the C.P. Goerz Extra Rapid Lynkeioskop Serie C. no1 albeit without a flange.
From what I have measured the thread pitch is M0.7 or TPI 36. Further the diameter of the screwmount on...
Some 'additional' info on this lens. Considering the diameter of your lens, you might have the 16 inch!

the lens reads 10x8
Many thanks Philip for visiting the site, glad you liked it!
Welcome with this very nice 'find'. Have a rebatched one, albeit full plate. I'm still a bit puzzled about the front of this camera, more specific its horizontal shift feature: there seems no...
Here's some interesting info on a Horne & Thornthwaite sliding box camera, presumably with its original lens with serial 6050...
Beautiful camera and well thought out with spring back; and what a nice wood/finish!
That would be great; thanks in advance
Nice find! I would be interested to know the thread and diameter of the screws used in the pinion assembly and the length and diameter of the pinion.
nice experiment!

creeping / penetrating oil might help too....let sit for some days...
If the shaft is rusted, you might also want to soak in some rustremover
Whole plate (or full plate) which you are referring to, is not an unusual plate size; however the glass ground screen on whole plate camera's may differ a bit in size. Best and cheapest option is to...
Yes, had ordered bellows for a whole plate camera; they never arrived. Got my money back because it was secured by Paypal.
What a lovely piece! and quite rare indeed.
typically a camera from the later collodion era; the bellows are probably not original since they have truncated corners. Here are comparable camera's from the same era (although the first one is a...
Weren't the Sutton globe lenses made by Thomas Ross? ...clearly a competitor to Grubb, so we might understand better Suttons (unsympathetic) position from that angle of view....
French camera from later collodion or early dry plate period since it has a very early type bellows (accordion type); wood - by the look of it - most probably walnut (most early French camera's are...
dead link....
Just got this book in the mail; English translated 2nd Edition from 2022. I thought especially the many bad translation flaws in the first edition would have been corrected in this...
Just got the English edition from 2016 (guess it is the first edition); very nice detailed information especially on the evolution of the glass (Abbe, Schott & Zeiss).
Much better English...
Intriguing Paul!
The description of St Andrews says it is lens nr. 1128, but looking closely at the picture it must be serial nr. 1428.
Hi Paul, after double checking it appears there is only one which seems to be missing in your list: nr. "3823 B3 Grubb Dublin" portrait lens.
(I have also nr. 5291 in my list, but can't find its...
Thank you Paul for providing your informative list.
A quick check against my list reveals that I have two lenses with a serial number that are not on your list yet. However I have to double checked...
Congrats on the acquisition. do you want to reveal their serial numbers? or post any pictures?
(since the list here became rapidly outdated I started to have my own updated)
I delete my suggestions to you, since other members here may read your response as though I advised the opposite.
Didn't they use velvet in the old days.....
An early bird for the list, which sold for a fine price a few days ago, an 'E' aplanatic:
