  1. Re: Many paper developers back-ordered or special order with long delivery lead

I got Dektol from Midwestern Photo Exchange in OH. Their website claims it is still in stock:

Re: Pricing Aluminum Plates and Sheets

I don't think that is it. The glue from the plastic coating was leaving a residue that created patterns that were more obvious when plates were over developed. It was an easy fix to just wipe the...
  3. Re: Wet Plate Collodion questions answered here.

Using the B&S kit to start is a smart move. There are so many variables in wet plate. Knowing the chemistry is mixed properly allows you to just focus on technique.

Paul's description is quite good. I would add that opalotypes also fall under the "wet plate" umbrella. Opalotypes are positive images in front of a white background (usually shot on white glass...

I avoid applying albumen by making the edges of the glass rough with sandpaper. The emulsion just needs something to hang onto so it doesn't slide off the edge.

Re: WET PLATE SILVER BOX IDEAL ID dim

Never heard of a dipper causing swirling problems. I use Lund tanks (8x10, 12x14, 16x20). The real reason to want the stainless steel hangers is there is less mess when removing large plates (8x10...

Re: ULF - 11x14 - Focal Length Lineup

For 11x14, I use a Nikon 450mm f/9 and 14in Commercial Ektar the most. I just added a Nikkor APO 610 f/9. If you are shooting close, a lot of 8x10 lenses will cover 11x14. I like to shoot 11x14...
  11. Re: Are the higher shutter speeds on large format lenses always off?

True, but I don't really want ambient light messing with my exposure if I am using strobes. I light my background if I don't want it dark.
  12. Re: Are the higher shutter speeds on large format lenses always off?

I use the fastest shutter speeds quite often in studio portraiture using strobes since leaf shutters sync at all speeds. If the shutter doesn't quite make it to 1/125, it doesn't matter because the...

    Re: 11x14 Deardorff Studio Camera

It used to be $200 a box at B&H. I bought the last 5 boxes just ahead of the yearly Ilford ULF order. Strangely enough the new B&H price is still lower than the Ilford ULF order price.
  30. Re: I take back every bad word I have said about Kodak...

That would be nice. I got the last batch of $8 a sheet HP5 from B&H. It should last me a while. I mainly got the 11x14 for wet plate work but the big negs are pretty spectacular.
  31. Re: I take back every bad word I have said about Kodak...

Love TMY in 35mm - 4x5. I thought about shooting TMY in 11x14 so I asked Keith Canham what was the going price?
    A 10 sheet box is $242!! I'll stick with my HP5.
