An 150mm XL is so much smaller, but you might have a bit less dark corners with a 165 f8.

  4. Re: Help choosing a "soft focus" lens, please.

The Kodak portrait and Rodenstock Imagon might be described as a back lens cell of a Rectilinear or Anastigmat, or as a +3 achromatic diopter behind an aperture or shutter. I got an Ilex #5, adapter...
  5. Re: Adapting 8x10 holder to 18x24 - possible?

The long term is to buy a 18x24cm Fidelity or other type film holder, wooden or plastic. I found 10 wooden in Sweden at 50 per holder

I think you will find the biggest difference when working in tabletop sizes around 1:3 or 1:2. The larger f5.6 will come handy. Also if you find f8 is the right aperture ;) . I had a 210mm apo symmar...

On a non-worn shutter, every speed except the fastest and the second fastest is my experience. I prefer to sell those I don't trust, and aim to write the actual shutter speeds on the lens board, as...
  10. Re: Are the higher shutter speeds on large format lenses always off?

Only one of my shutter where acurate, a Fujinon-W 210mm, sold to a man in need. Else both small and big where not up to the task of giving 1 stop shorter than the next.

Both, but the 180 is placed in my 4x5" rucksack, the 210 is resting at home. Good thing about the 180 apo macro sironar is the 70 degree coverage and a Copal #1 shutter. My 210 macro sironar (bought...

    Re: 8x10 LF Lenses

For macro, I suggest a 180 or 210mm, like Weston used on his peppers. Close to 1:1 the distance from lens to subject is 360 or 410mm respectively. A G-Claron 210 would also cover at infinity. A...

If you are to have the same elements in the picture, move backwards with a longer lens. Figure 34 of page 40 shown above shows the effect of moving the tennis ball towards the center.

Buy a Noritzu bag which you have to raise up with a frame in bottom and hang from the velcro, or a tent, Harrison-type. A changing box will also work.
