    Re: June Portraits

    Inochkin, that's a lovely portrait.

Thanks, Guys, for your kind comments on my portrait. Over the years, I've always intended to do more large format portrait work, but it rarely works out. Last...
  2. Re: Affordable 8x10: Any Other Game than Intrepid?

I'd be careful now shipping anything really important. I've never had shipping problems until the last couple of weeks. Fed Ex delivered a package of film to a house 40 miles away. UPS was...

Re: safe haven for tiny formats

The gnome is about 1/2 block from my house. There is a huge (for this area) maple tree, easily 4 feet in diameter. The owner has little scenes like this all over the base and trunk of the tree.
  5. Re: Daylight processing tank for x-ray film

I've started doing that, too, although I'm using 200. X-ray can give very good results, but it is a bit of a hassle. X-ray was particularly terrific for ULF.

Re: Question about JOBO expert drums

I don't load the tanks while they are filled with water for a number of reasons. First, I don't shoot that much film, and I have a number of tanks. It's rare that I would immediately reuse a drum. ...

I have the portrait book in the series. It's excellent. I'll look for the other books in the series. Thank you for reminding me of these books, Daniel.

Did you determine the best height to suspend the negative? How did you keep the negative flat?

So, sponges...they should be wetted and wrung out before using.

    Circles of confusion...;)
  14. Re: Should I Drum Scan, X1 Flextight Scan, or use the Epson V850 w/Aztek Wet Mount Ki

  15. Re: Should I Drum Scan, X1 Flextight Scan, or use the Epson V850 w/Aztek Wet Mount Ki

Having separate profiles for each film stock is even better. Wolf Faust , Hutch color, and others made the profiling targets. It really does make a difference, which I know from first hand...

  17. Re: Should I Drum Scan, X1 Flextight Scan, or use the Epson V850 w/Aztek Wet Mount Ki

Dealing with grain is highly scanner dependent. For example, I used to own both a consumer flatbed and a Nikon Coolscan. The Coolscan absolutely obliterated the flatbed, at least it did with...

Great summary, Rick. I too hadn't heard of laser scanning before.

  24. Re: Should I Drum Scan, X1 Flextight Scan, or use the Epson V850 w/Aztek Wet Mount Ki

Grat, if it's so much trouble, why are you talking about it? Just don't do it. Problem solved.
  25. Re: Should I Drum Scan, X1 Flextight Scan, or use the Epson V850 w/Aztek Wet Mount Ki

I don't find it fiddly or difficult, and you're lumping a bunch of different approaches together. For example, using a slide duplicator with a digital camera is easy and much faster than any other...

  29. Re: Should I Drum Scan, X1 Flextight Scan, or use the Epson V850 w/Aztek Wet Mount Ki

I've got one of those, too. It's a very good performer. I expect it's pretty close to the Apo Rodagon D 2x f/4.5 lens, but that's just a mildly informed guess. It's definitely different from the...

    Re: Stitching scans or not???

Jason, you can use these lenses normally or reversed. The 1x isn't very good at other magnifications. The 2x/.5x is a bit more versatile.

    Re: Fomapan 100, 200 and 400

Just ran some quick zone tests on Foma 200. My N EI is 160. Rating it at 800 and extending development gave very good results. I used DS10 1+1. N development at 75 F in Jobo Expert Drum at...
