Vikings get cranky when they haven't looted, pillaged or slain a dragon recently. Despite my Norske and Min roots, I find living by the beach in California to be a superior choice.
Presoaking and Jobo reels do not produce this for me. You could try straight stand processing. The results can be really nice - slightly harder grain, range compensation and better accutance.
Some films are more tolerant than others as well. I find that 6 sheets of TRI-X in Pyrocat will always process ok but when I use FP4+ I some times limit it to 4 sheets because of the possibility to...
PC-TEA for pushing
Pyrocat P for accutance
Silver all the way - only B&W. It is a hobby. If I was doing commercial/wedding it would all be digital for sure. I use a digital spot meter. Does that count?
Xtol was developed with Tabular grain films in mind. Although both will work fine, I think the XTOL will give you better sharpness and it is less toxic.
good point - always easier to prevent than to deal with the dust that is there in the air. I have a shop vac that I pull out as well but it is noisy and a hassle at times.
Snappy sharpness requires grain. TechPan almost never looked sharp - no grain - no edge effects. If you develop 4x5 for greater accutance (like extreme minimal agitation) then you will see even your...
I have not had any bad experiences with TMY - I use it for pin hole photography because of its reciprocity characteristics but it works well with most applications. It pushes well and has very tight...
Mine wear and need some of this: - I have used other tape and gotten away with it - cracks and bends are a deal breaker but a blast of air and a moist cloth should keep them in business for at least...
Use it quite a bit in 4x5 - EI for me with a 72IR filter is 6. good IR effects - don't shoot at mid day. http://www.hovation.com/assets/oldirbanch1a.jpg
Develops OK in D-76, Microphen, XTOL
I shoot FP4+ and TRI-X. Lately less TRI-X. Although TRI-X is my staple for 6x6, I find I like the contrast of FP4+ better overall. The only other film I have developed in it is Maco IR820c and in the...
I have a 2523 tank and a 2509n reel with the whole tank kit- loader etc. I also have extra reels and the extension for it so I can develop 18 sheets at once. Using inversion processing, I have not...
Looking at your photograph - I bet if you had a spot meter, you would find this to be a very contrasty scene. You have bright sun poking through dark shadows - I bet it is at least and sbr of 8 or...
Amen on the Jobo for hand inversion processing - with an extension, I can do 18 sheets at once (carefully) - one thing I might add, .... well .... 2 things - Fuji Hunt makes a post wash called...
My Densitometer reads both. There have been some fine articles written about UV response. I will only report what I have observed. I use a condenser enlarger with no UV filter. I use graded paper....
Cool! - this works for me -
There is ALWAYS a test strip - rocket science is not that good on paper
Go up a size - open a stop and test
Go down a size - close a stop and test
Now - here is the...
civil war prints are still around and look good - I do not know how the egg will hold up in heat and cold
That egg process sounds a lot like a Albumen process. I got the stuff for it and never tried it. (too many irons in the fire I guess) I was thinking egg whites would stick like crazy glue to...
As long as they work - I toss my developer when I don't get good blacks in 20 seconds on Fiber paper or in 10 seconds on RC paper - about 20 8x10 per liter I guess. If I use it longer, I will not get...
Just looking at the thread here Steve, I mentioned a circumstance where I had unruly negs and was able to print using a step wedge - all on topic and with no breach of agreement.
The reply was:...
In this thread I guess I missed the part where all the details of what was being shot and how prints were going to be made all that information that would help one choose a film developer combo. So...
Geee Steve: It is my work - I did not say who or what or what the outcomes were - it could be anything - anywhere - anyone. So as far as you would know it is all anecdotal. I am a subscriber and I...
Prototype film is when a manufacturer gives you free film to test that has not been released on the market. (AND they do not want you to discuss the specifics) Following their instructions with their...
I had taken some shots with some prototype film and was using the "recommended developer and time and got really cooked negs. I was measuring low base fog and zone 9 was up around 2.5 or more. I got...
Man! what a setback! I am so sorry to hear about your camera. .... now ... about redesigning your house ...
Wow - dense! (if you want 10 zones) - what does you paper do?
My grade 2 paper gives me a zone 1 at .1 over B+F and a zone 10 at 1.25 over B+F.
I guess the real question is:
Do you want all ten...
knowing what I know now - if I was starting all over - with a camera that shoots sheet film:
I would limit myself to B&W
I would have film for shooting crap (only one box) - as cheap as possible -...
Or the best idea yet - stand processing
It is free
It is easy
It is relaxing
It compensates
It increases film speed
It is hands on, like - uhhhh - a hobby
GEEEZE - what an idea. .... of...
Agitation has to be somewhat random - I cannot imagine this making negs without marks made by the eddys.
I do listen to music - but I am always busy - there really are no minutes that I am not hands on with something - I do enjoy my time in there - Of course it is a new darkroom - just finished and the...
