I am curious about other people’s experience with negative holders. I bought two different one thinking I could get away without paying for one from negative supply. The one held together with...

Wow! That’s very nice. And encouraging. Thanks. You had a much more successful first attempt then I did.
Is it advisable/necessary to use Eco-Wash or hypo clear after fixing dry plates? (Both home made w/Foma Emulsion & J. Lane Plates)
When washing these plates, should that be done in a still tray of...
It’s great that you share your knowledge freely. Thank you. It inspires me to keep learning.
FWIW - the Lowepro Pro Tactic Utility Bag holds 5 (6 very tightly) 4x5 film holders each in a zip lock, rubber banded, and inside of a gallon zip lock perfectly. Well designed and should last. (Now...
Interesting. So it was more of a “Trade secret” type of thing? As an aside, I was at Freestyle today. They have a whole display case on the wall dedicated to J. Lane Plates, holders, and accessories...
A still existing problem, common to many photographers since the beginning of image making is intentional misdirection
Anecdotally, I have been researching photographers and their studios logos...
Thanks Paul. He’s who inspired me to try this in the first place. His video showed up in my “Recommened” feed on YT. The kid is very knowledgeable and easy to follow.
Update: I tried coating again...
I’ve been very happy with the Acratech head. Small, compact, strong, and will hold 25 pounds. I wasn’t happy paying for it, though. I use a dslr and a Speec Fraphic with an Aero Ektar that weighs in...
No. I didn’t know about this site. Thanks.
A little help, please?
Well....that was an unmitigated disaster. The emulsion melted down well enough in 35mm film cans, but it was like doing wax-resist painting. When I went to pour the emulsion on the plates, it was...
I fought this problem for a long time. Hook a carabiner to the center column and hang your overfilled, overweight camera bag to it. Problem solved, as I carry an extra kitchen sink in my camera bag.
Ok. Making great strides thanks to this forum. I have 4x5 glass plates subbed w/a Rollei Gelatin & chrome alum mixture. That part went pretty well for my first try. One plate has some streaks on it,...
This was interesting and along the same lines of this discussion, I think.

Nada. (sound of tumbleweeds)
Hi Emil - These are very creative and well executed.
This is way above my pay grade, but fascinating nonetheless. I am always amazed at how deep the impact of the photographic process is. There are so many specialties and disciplines that one can...
I just bought the materials for storage from Conservation Resources. Very helpful. The lady I spoke with told me they designed their plate storage products for The UCLA Archive’s Glass Plate...
I really hope that Kodak gets it together - and soon. They have been reliable for so long and I hate to see this happening. By the way, where are the replacements?
Very nice! What gauge of silver wire do I want to use when modifying 4x5 film holders to hold plates? I realize that they will leave white marks on the corners of the plates from their shadows. Not...
Great. I would have never found them on my own. Thank you Neal.
I missed the info in your post. This was the wrong kind of glass I was quoted. That price didn’t include shipping. BUT that was for 25 4x5 plates!
“ Usually the Borofloat glass is used here.
The...
It’s looking like new bellows for The Speed Graphic are in my future. I saw some on EBay, I contacted the chap in The UK, and am wondering if there are any other options. Are there any...
I contacted Howard glass. They quoted me 25 borosilicate glass plates for their minimum order of $350. That seemed insane. Did the guy steer me wrong and not understand or have things changed with...

Thank you. This explanation allowed me to “get it” Off to Freestyle....
I am going to. Thanks. It just struck me as odd that the same emulsion can do both. I guess the halides don’t care where the photons are coming from.
Thanks, I got that part. But I am asking about the emulsions and the developers. I am quite familiar with what an enlarger does. Here’s my question - if I put Foma Emulsion (for example) on a glass...
This may be a dumb question, but here goes. I am completely new to dry plate/glass plate/tintype/prints made on glass plates photography and don’t completely understand emulsions & developers. Liquid...
Great! Thank you.
Has anyone ever ordered cut glass plates from these guys I saw earlier in this thread? (Mamut Photo in the Czech Republic)I called one of my local glaziers and they quoted me $5.00/plate fir 4x5...
I pulled both of mine apart, as the tests revealed light leaks. One of them now works well. Cleaned them and lubricated them with a wax based bike chain formula similar to Ice Wax. The light trap on...
See this thread, too. https://www.largeformatphotography.info/forum/showthread.php?160844-Tiny-Black-Specs-on-Arista-EDU-Ultra-100/page3&highlight=Rodinal+1%3A25+1%3A50
Apparently this problem lives on. A box of 4x5 from Freestyle & a box from B&H both show these. There’s a reason that this costs 1/2 of what every other 4x5 film costs. First it was bad Xtol and now...
Lots of good advice here. Is there a difference between coffee filters and a filter funnel w/filter paper? How many microns of filtration is a good idea? I just mixed a new batch of Legacy Pro Fixer...
The gizmo from Cinestill works quite well. Others report that a sous vide (sp?) heater used for cooking works well for maintaining temperature control.
Lots of great ideas. The members of this board are very helpful. Thanks!
Great photo! And yes, that is exactly the kind of thing that I am after. Thank you! I have experimented a bit with Rollei RPX 25, as well. It’s such a thin base that it’s on that it’s rather tricky...
