....Why the North Pole of course, Alan!
Season's Greetings. Wishing all a stellar New Year 2021 & may your favourite films & fibre-based papers stay in production!
Rolleiflex, Tessar, FP4, Foma FB. (Mt Assiniboine, Rockies, Canada)...
Yes Willie, it's an older print. I had this one and some others more usually on Azo. I loved that Forte VC and the Fortezo graded even more. I haven't found anything even remotely close. These days i...
Thanks h20man. Jay is a friend of mine. & I had this camera made after seeing his images for "Open Country." Mine turned out prettier than Jay's since it was built by a cabinet maker friend of mine...
Glaciologists cabin, Peyto Glacier, Canada. 4x10 box camera, 90 super angulon xl in helicoid focusing mount, Bergger 200, print on Forte WT FB...

Beautiful tonalities Paul! Kudos! Any general comments on the developer? My standard has been PMK and Pyrocat. Love the tonal scale in that one.
Just lovely.... brings out nostalgia for time spent in the city of light
Cor, it's just a matter of re-checking the focus once you stop down. I've never found it to be a big issue and i've got a few of them in different focal lengths. I have heard it said that it varies...
John, the Goerz would work on pretty much any 4x5. It's not particularly big, and it's a versatile lens with lovely character.
Essentially your thread got hijacked Adam. Don't worry about it.... just get the camera you're after and start photographing. You learn more as you go along....and as necessary.
I see your predicament now Alan. I've never used a camera with a low friction focus track, so I don't have a solution for you, other than to suggest dropping Hugo Z a message since he's also a...

Alan, I use the loupe to check focus, once i've gotten as close as I can with both eyes and no loupe. I don't think view cameras are really meant to be focused with one hand, as you've always...
Bryan, just a couple of points. As far as a 'bloated' camera line, Shen Hao offers 3 - 8x10 models and 6 - 4x5 cameras....more than Chamonix. The early Shen-Hao 4x5s weren't really up to the...
Adam... Chamonix. I've had 2 a 5x7 and a 4x5. I used an old Deardorff for many years. I am very impressed with the build quality and operation of the Chamonix cameras....especially at their...
Beautiful image Yuriy! Kudos!
Michael, having viewed some of your work, I'd suggest the Linhof Technikardan ....which straddles the line between a field camera and a monorail. From your architectural photos i can see why you...
Thank you CB, I've done a lot of handheld work w the Fuji. I love 6x8, but i've gone to the Plaubel Makina 670 for its more manageable packed size, & yes it's prairie oysters up here....
Alan....it's an iphone photo of the print...there's no banding in the original

Alan, Although I don't have one.... they are eminently practical. I have a darkroom colleague who only shoots 35mm (mostly Leica)....and all he prints is essentially 6.5 x 8.5" on 8x10 paper. He...
Beautiful image Tuco!
I absolutely agree with you Bob, & yes Laura Wilson's "Avedon at Work: In The American West" is a worthwhile read.
Thank you David. 1945 D-18

Plaubel Makina 670, FP4+, 20"x24" print on Oriental Seagull FB
Great metaphor Vaughn. Almost spewed coffee through my nostrils.
My standard wide lens on 5x7 has been the Dagor 4 3/8"......tiny lens and a fine performer...& like Kevin said the also tiny & inexpensive 150 G Claron.

Beautifully done Peter
Thank you Martin. It is one of the most beautiful small valleys in the Alps......& a Unesco Heritage site (Puez Odle Unesco Heritage Site)
Ries.....now there's a tripod (& head) we can agree on !
Why does a camera made in Italy need "American hardwood" ?
What Dan said...... two happy cameras later
I always thought i had taken a photo of the little chapel in the sunlit meadow in the centre of this photo....but couldnt' find the negative...
Alan, My MXT came with a socket head glued onto the knob, so i just insert a ratchet handle and it makes for easy focusing without the big expense.
Miket, the 45MXT is a reliable workhorse. I use one with a Zone VI VC head for formats up to 4x5. I've got 50, 80, 105, 150 lenses. For large prints from MF as well as 4x5 & 5x7 I use my Durst 138...
Thank you MF Shooter.
Here's the print (11"x14") on my last sheet of Forte Polygrade WT. It was my favourite paper.

I've used both the Chamonix 5x7 horizontal and the 4x5 for mountain trips. If I worked in 8x10 i'd get the Alpinist If it were me..... i'd sell the Intrepid....but then, i've dragged a Deardorff 8x10...
John, I've bought 2 Chamonix cameras as well as accessories by directly contacting Hugo Zhang. He's your best connection. hugoz_2000@yahoo.com
