Oren I'd like to know this also...as indeed the cap which I'd "removed" for that repair is now held on with tape until I can figure a better way to affix it.
Thing is, there is yet another axis...

Did the same diy with my 1370-M. Got tighter-n-heck so I took it apart - turned out that the lube was dried and caked - so I cleaned it up with a solvent and re-lubed (very sparingly) with...
You could always use two stop baths...the first being a more diluted acetic-based solution, followed by plain water prior to fixing. Sprint stop bath is buffered so you might go this route...
I...
I would recommend that you think about obtaining a piece of glass (either plain or with a grid) which would be installed on top of your current plastic fresnel - as a protector...also acting as a...
Norly...please refine your earlier statement - that you'd been using the screen with the "uneven" side towards you. Would this be the side with all of the concentric circles...or the "frosted, matte...
If the fresnel field in question features a ground/frosted focussing surface on one side - then this is an "all in one" focus screen/fresnel field...and, assuming that the film back of the camera in...
I've had great luck with FP-4...boosting subject brightness range simply by virtue of reciprocity failure - and then ignoring the recommended pull back of development time...but instead either...
Just to note...that I've had problems in attempting to pre-soak Ilford Multigrade Classic FB, giving very uneven results. From what I can see, what happened here is that the pre soak interfered with...
Schematics...yet another learning curve which I feel too old/encumbered to embrace - but so very useful! Should be a required subject in primary education!
Yes...the (functional) horse needs to lead the (design) cart, in all aspects...otherwise, why bother?
Thanks Ben. And all darkroom - through and through. Just a few days ago I posted, in the Darkroom/Processing section, a detailed thread about my large print process, with some photographs of some...
"Rest assured that your replacement product will meet all appropriate criteria."
Sorry, Oren...but this statement really, truly burns me! Basically, with this they are admitting fault, but...
Both Michaels - I hear you equally.
Michael K. - Indeed...I've spent over half a century with basically the same materials and principles, extracting my own "best possible results," and see...
Vaughn...about that campfire photo - I find it a bit ironic that the guys who likely had the most to drink probably looked the sharpest!
edit: assuming, of course (with apologies and head...
What works for me in the 4x5 format is a multiple of 1.5 (ish), which, for me, means 65,90,135,210, and 305.
For 5x7, its more a question of my being enamored of particular focal lengths: 210...
I'm actually thinking of bringing this one to 40x50 (probably closer to 38x53) as I think the detail would hold and, well, I'd just like to see it that big! (reason enough...right?)
Thank you. I've recently printed this image as a 30x40 - and it looks great at that size. Also...I've toned down the foreground shadow area just a tad (looks a bit unreal and over-manipulated in my...
Most likely a beaver...but possibly an otter. Definitely not a bilge rat though, because, well, here in Vermont (just as in California apparently) we do like to keep our powder dry!
I think part of the lesson here is "ya gotta see for yourself!"
Part of the problem here...objectively  speaking, is knowing where the optical baseline should be for some of these...
Folks...I truly appreciate this discussion - thank you!
I likely will not get around to this any time soon...but seeing as I have the Radeka kit for 4x5, and I ultimately (might) want to mask...
Agree with the 14" Blue Dot Trigor - had one of these for awhile...latest edition Kern version in #3 Copal - amazing! Tested by taping strips of 35mm Agfapan 25 to center and edges of 11x14 holder -...
FP4/Pyrocat HD (in glycol), 1:1:100.
Bryan...I'm going to sound like a broken record - and, once more, say how great this is! I love the dreamy quality of the lights, and how the upper cabin of the Jeep seems to almost dissolve into...
No real problem with my current prints...just wondering if I could push just a tad more feeling of sharpness out of my 40x60's without compromising overall character. Still on the fence...but if I...
My attention has been piqued also...partly because I've been looking at getting into whole plate (6.5x8.5) at some point - and although I already have a very nice Heiland LED VC unit for 5x7, and...
Renato...I, too, have Lynn Radeka's Masking Kit (4x5 version - wish it were 5x7) - and what has held me back...as well as a bit of fear of the learning curve...has been the lack of a decent pan...
hmmm...I believe that Agfa produces quartz optical plates of some sort (too hard to grind, but you could lay some diffusion material on top side) - and there's always the Hasselblad 105mm...
Cannot remember if I'd already posted this image from Bodie:

More "Erosion Detail"...this time in Capitol Reef:

When I turned 66 last October, a few things finally dawned on me…that, nope - I wouldn’t be climbing Everest. Not owning that 911. Not getting that Guggenheim…
But…who wants to stand on that...
Eric…the short answer: the Heiland is at least 4 exposure values (16x) brighter than my particular Zone-VI VC (florescent) light source. Further assessment, plus some data for the print presented...
Thank you...I'm always hopeful that the information I share might be of some use to others...provide some insight or at least be entertaining.
Funny thing when I first started this (doing 40x60...
I also keep go-bags for each format, but the problem is that some filters and the Pentax spot meter goes with each - so I need a "Meter, Filters" list. Oh...also my watch with second hand - although...
Love the icy capped rocks in stream bed...but I think my favorite is the "Shore Acres, Oregon" print - the gracefully sculpted trunk just glows!
Cor, in reference to the second image in my post above - a couple of more questions regarding the iodine/methanol bleach - One: does it application fit into the same step of the process (after one of...
Here is a dry mounted example of one of my earlier large prints (tucked into my newly build removable easel), but prior to my having built the easel…so the paper was taped to the wall, and un-taped...
Cor...I'd be very interested in the iodine/methanol formula. Do you have any sense of its long term stability?
Gotta chime in again...thinking about the location of the spots (close to dark slide entry point) and lower relative humidity at this time of year, and the possibility that yes, there is dust present...
Malexand - this setup also works well for smaller (than 40x60) sizes. I've also cobbled together a similar setup for 30x40's...and really do not see why something like this for 20x24's, or even...
I did consider brush development...but the tray rocking works just fine - and minus the brushes equals less to keep track of!
